to be seen by the doctor in a reasonable amount of time?  Went to the doctor and had to wait an hour and 20 minutes to be seen.  I think they book too many appointments too close together.  I was waiting in the exam room for at least  30 minutes.  The doctor did take her time once she got in the room and did answer all my questions.  Am I expecting too much?  I think my time is valuable too, even though I am just a stay at home mom/housewife.  I do not think I should have to wait more than 20 minutes.  4951

Where do you go? Sounds like one of my old doctors. I don't go back to her because she always made me wait. Wondered why my blood pressure was high and I always had to tell her it is only high after waiting an hour and a half to see you. Hasn't been high once after dropping her. 4951

I recently switched doctors after having insanely long wait times. Loved the doc and her thoroughness but length of wait made me switch. 4951

dr's Forget at times that they work for you as much as you need their services. Ive been "fired" from a pediatrician Before because I let them know I wasnt happy with the 2 hour wait in an small exam room with a 4 year old. A 1 year old and a newborn. The Dr. Came in for 10 minutes, didn't listen to me. I refused to pay them. They sent me a letter a couple of weeks later stating our "philosophy on care" do not match and that I should find a new pediatrician. I laughed at that. 4951

My dr does that to me, but... i know once I finally get to see her she will spend as much time as I need getting any questions or issues addressed. I even made my daughter an appointment with her for an issue and the dr spent way more time than any other dr talking with my daughter to help her with her situation. Luckily I only need to see her once a year, but I am always prepared to spend some serious time waiting on her. I like her so much that I still see her even though her office is on the west side and I could easily find a new dr closer or with less wait time.  4951

We use Kelsey-Seybold and their doctors are usually right on time.  Sometimes they take me a little early and sometimes I wait a little while.  However, this is NOT the case for their Urology department at their Main Clinic.  I've waited as much as 2 hours. If it's any longer than that, I leave after letting the receptionist know.  Some doctors are also surgeons and can be called away unexpectedly for emergency surgery. There is a psychiatrist at the front of Kingwood that routinely overbooks patients.  From talking to people in the waiting room, the wait is typically 2-3 hours past the appointment time.  He also lied about giving 90 days prescriptions.  He said it was against the law to give 90 day prescriptions.  He just wants you back every month.  We went back to my original doctor. Edited: The above mentioned doctor is Pradeep Roy.  I decided to name him because he has no concern for his patients. He also changed my medicine from a mild anti-anxiety drug to a strong psychotropic that was addictive.  In less than a month, I was at an ER with uncontrollable muscle spasms and very high BP.  They couldn't do anything but monitor me until the drug wore off.  Please AVOID this guy at all costs!  I had sat in Pradeep Roy's waiting room with about 10 other patients for over two hours.  I was positioned so I could hear the receptionist.  A pharmaceutical rep. had taken him out to a nice lunch causing the massive pile-up in his waiting room!I had changed from my old doctor ONLY because my health insurance changed and my first doctor was not listed.  I went back to my original doctor, see him every three months, and went back to the mild anti-anxiety medicine (with 90 day prescriptions).  I pay for him out-of-pocket ($100) but my copay for Pradeep Roy was $35 every month, so it was a wash.  My original doctor is never more than a few minutes late, if any, and he CARES about his patients!  4951

@Retired_Engineer: Many years ago I worked for a group of surgeons.  I hated having to tell people the doctor was in surgery when I knew he was on the golf course.  I guess that's why it agitates me so much when the doctor runs late.  I figure they are all playing golf.

We book appointments, usually on their schedule unless you know it will be a fit in type situation, we have to make accommodations for that time period. I don't think it unreasonable at all. I love(sarcasm) that some will now bill you for missed appointments. Like @retired_engineer said, some are surgeons, some have deliveries to attend, I realize not everything is under the control of some doctors, but if it going to be more than an hour and you aren't informed as to why..that is unreasonable. 4951

I use to work with one dr that refused to see her patients if they were not there and checked in 5 minutes before their appointment time. And if it was a new patient she required they be there 20 minutes early. Then she would make them sit in the waiting room for up to 30 minutes after their scheduled appointment time. She was a real joy to work with. 4951

I don't mind waiting for my daughters neurologist, he is such a great guy and its usually no more than 30 minutes. Our insurance, bcbs, is no longer accepted by Kelsey-seybold..instead of him asking us to pay the nearly $500 specialist visit, he told me that as long as there is no change, to just call every year and he will re-write daughters prescription..she has been taking the same for years so not likely to need a change.

I was wait hours to see him if necessary. 4951

A general family practice doctor that is not a surgeon has no real excuse and is just rude. 20-30 minutes is about it for me, especially if I was on time, had an appointment, etc.

Yes, I know emergencies come up, but if it is a regular practice, then it's time to find another doctor.

I had an internist that practiced at KW medical center and his staff actually told me, after an almost 2 hour wait, that his wife (SAHM) wouldn't let him leave home until she had all the kids (too young for school) fed and dressed. I was furious, ripped him a new one for being such a pu##y and never went back. Told him if you are so habitually late every day that your staff rats you out to patients, then you need to grow a pair, hire wifey-poo some help and get your happy *** to work. 4951

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA:

I use to go to Kelsey for my primary, but got dropped because of BCBS. Thankfully I haven't had to go to a pcp since, because I really have no idea where to go now. 4951
