I want to start growing a few indoor plants.  Particularly geraniums and lavender because of their ability to absorb chemicals from the air.  I am good at outdoor plants but how do you grow inside and keep it clean and dry? 4951

@foxymama:
Will these plants help with dust?

You have to put special rocks on the top. Had a serious problem with this a while back. Some soils are made for indoor but I make my own. I can use it indoors but I have to use the gnat rocks. Got a bag on Amazon. Maybe $20. It worked! No more gnats.    4951

No kidding. I was unaware it was a problem. Really depends though on type of soil. The outdoor stuff, good idea not to put that in your home from my experience. You can do it but will need a thick layer of these rocks. Gnats can't dig through it so they die. Believe me, you do not want this problem in your house!!! www.amazon.com/Liter -Kills-Gnats-Growsto ne-GPGC33CF/dp/B00K8 1TH28/ref=sr_1_Emoticonsc=1 4951

My wife wanted a large fern near our french doors but being the cheapo I am, I refused to buy soil since I have a large compost bin. Big mistake! Gnats everywhere in a few weeks. I was researching this topic and then found the rocks and it worked. This is a large pot so with a small one, probably not a big deal. I must have had thousands of gnats, had to put the plant outside for a while.  4951

@Gramoda, spiders or gnats?  Gnats win!

@Fallon: I think I took this way too literally.
