What brands have you tried or heard are good.  Considering getting one to mow about 1 acre.  Mostly flat with one decent hill.  TIA 4951

Had a Craftsman which was junk. Switched to a Troy-bilt which was very good. Sold it when I moved down here. Switched to a Mexican model. 4951

@foxymama:

Before you buy one do research on who makes the mower each brand.  MTD makes mowers for alot of different brands.  Also look at the reviews, I look at the worse ones and see if I can find a pattern with the same complaint over and over.  If you do look at Troybuilt I will tell you they use to make a very good product 12 years ago but that is no longer the case.  With riding mowers starting at 800 for a small one I would take my time before buying one unless the yard is overgrown and your mower is broken.  Good luck. 4951

Oh yeah, I have been looking at reviews.  There are also three different kinds as well.  The riding tractor type, the zero-turn and even a Ryobi electric riding mower.  4951

II had a riding tractor mower for my yard. Last month I had bought it and it was transported by auto transport Fresno (http://www.wewilltransportit.com/transporting-farm-equipment/) transporter. My ride tractor mower helped me a lot with the features of 4-wheel steering for ultimate durability, 4-wheel drive to negotiate a tough area, faster, mulch easily and quickly. 4951

My yard is about half an acre and I have an Ariens zero turn.  It came with the house as the previous owner downsized, didn't want it, and it didn't run.  I fixed it up a little and it works great.  Much faster than a standard rider, and very easy to use once you practice for five minutes in the driveway.  It's not a high-end model, but is sturdy and would cost $2500 or so new from a big box store.  If you will at your new house for a good while it is worth the investment.  4951

If you consider a John Deere. Buy it from a John Deere only shop. John Deere makes a lower quality product for the big box stores. 4951
