Did anyone else have a very high water bill between Jan 3 and Jan 13 of this year.  COH says I used 18K of water in an empty house that is for sale and no water leaks confirmed by a licensed plumber.  Fancy that!  Let me know if you've been had by the COH Water Dept. 4951

I had a high bill but that is because we got the house pressure washed.  Didn't realize how much your bill goes up having that done.  House looks great though. 4951

Pressure washing the whole house uses quite a bit of water.  But the results are great, I agree! 4951

They say I use 2 or 3 thousand gallons a month.  No pool, no watering the grass, we must flush the toilet alot. 4951

We had this happen a few months in a row over the fall. We're new to COH so it's been interesting. They were saying we were using 15-20K gallons each month, we did all the leak checks any everything, turned the sprinkler system off even. They've been more normal the last 2 months but I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. 4951

I have got a few stating that I used 10-13K gallons,called and told them yard would be flooded along with house if that was true. Took 4 calls to get them to come out to check meter, finally did and they said it checked out. I have heard they average before, which makes no sense, and try disputing it by not paying your bill, you will be buying bottled water. To the OP, I would escalate that, if you can prove you have not been there and have had it checked by a plumber, that what would a logical explanation from COH water be? 4951

@LFW1: MMM....  I am guessing someone was using your water since they knew the house was empty.  Happened to me on a rental property I owned in Elm Grove...

No @BooBear, it is nothing but a money grab from the COH.  If anyone would ever investigate them, the truth would come out.I have been fighting this battle with the COH for years.  And it never freaking ends!Last year we got a Feb bill, the shortest month of the year, and it was rainy, so we weren't watering our yard.  And we don't have a pool.  AND I have all new toilets and faucets in every bathroom, as well my kitchen faucet is new.  Had a plumber verify we have no leaks on our side. And the COH water bill said we used 21K Gallons of water.  It wasn't a remote possibility that this could have occurred.  I called filed a complaint and asked for an audit of my account going back 10 years.  I spoke to 2 supervisors.  Each one more useless and clueless than the last.  They said I still had to pay this bill.  So I paid, the bill.  And I called them every week to complain and ask what they were doing on their part to fix this bs.  I never let us.  I called and called.My next months bill, which was March, the same month that I decided the hell with it. If I have to pay for the damn water I will use the damn water.  I watered my yard, I pressure washed my house.  I cleaned all the windows.  I used water like never before.  And guess what my bill was for?  Less than 100.  Never have I lived here and paid under 100 for any of our water bills.  NEVER.The COH water dept is corrupt of grossly incompetent.  Maybe both.If you get this, call and complain.  And you have to do this more than once.  This is the only way they kick you out of their  "lets screw this address" rotation.

My guess is they estimated the first one (in their favor of course) and then caught you up the next. 4951

I have boys too, so no long showers wasted on them

@Fallon:

I think you underestimate how long boys shower. 4951

You can read your own meter and see how it tracks with what they are saying.  Our bill in the winter runs less than $100 for both meters, pool and big yard but just the two of us now.  In the summer it can get up to $250 depending on rainfall/watering. We rarely have to put water in the pool due to the rain here....except for the drought year.

They are probably charging everyone for all the water they waste with leaks and busted lines that spew water for days before being repaired. 4951
