So I am pet sitting for a friend who cannot be reached at the moment and I have NO IDEA how to operate their dimmer switches. Well, okay, so I know how to make them brighter and dimmer, but I do NOT know how to turn them completely off. Whatever happened to a damn on/off switch?!

I am hoping someone has these same dimmer switches so they can tell me how to turn them completely OFF.

Here is their light switch. I need to know how to operate the one in the center and the one on the right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to say I am smarter than a light switch, but apparently not. Emoticon 4951

In mine, I have to make them even. Button can't be higher on one end. Does that make sense ? 4951

@sweetie

Your trick worked to the one in the middle for the one in the powder room. Seriously, who needs "ambiance" in the powder room???

@Sandyknee

I have no idea where I would begin to look, but seriously, I need to find a "hub" to completely turn off a light switch? What is the point?

Do people really need a dimmer switch for their outside flood light? I don't get it! I can understand having one in a dining room, or a bedroom, but in almost every room in the house? Thank God the laundry room, where they keep the dog food, is a simple on/off. Guess I am going to have to take a college course to understand the logic behind this. I am going to just stick to my on/off switches. 4951

Those switches may have a delayed off timer, so when you tap the button to turn it off, give it time 4951

@ExBlue:

So what worked?  How did you do it?  (I'm thinking of switching out some of mine.)

@SandyKnee:

The middle one, I touched the top and the bottom at the same time and it turned off. The one on the right, I turned all of the way down and after a few minutes, it turned itself off, like @OldGuy said.

All I have to say is, if you ever ask anyone to pet sit or house sit for you, leave them detailed instructions on how to operate the light switches. Just totally ridiculous, if you ask me. It's a light switch for crying out loud! Don't make the damn thing PhD level! 4951

I didn't turn them on. They were left on, overnight, I was just trying to turn them off.

The lights are on or off for me. Dimmer switches are useless. 4951

@Ebola:

I have dimmers in a couple of my rooms. I'd rather just on/off switches too. 4951
