Yesterday, wb on NP, traffic moving about 35.
I see less than 2 car lengths ahead and to my left, a large dog jump out of the car window that was about half-way down. He jumped far enough away that he hit center in my lane. Of course, he fell due to the speed. Thank goodness I didn't run over him or that I didn't cause a wreck by stopping so hard. It was so close that when he hit the ground I couldn't see him past my hood. He got up and ran nb on a side street. The owner and I took off after him. He ran behind a building. The owner took the first driveway. I stepped on it and took the second driveway, cutting him off at the pass as he rounded the back of the building. He came right to me when I called him. I got him by the leash and he jumped in my car. The owner came around the building at that time. I'm sure they learned a valuable lesson. So glad it was a happy ending! What a big, beautiful, sweet and crazy dog! It wasn't a Siberian Husky, it was larger with a thick, plush long coat. That coat no doubt gave him some protection when he hit the concrete. 4951

Have never understood why people let their dogs hang out the windows like that. That dog was extremely lucky. 4951

How did you know that was the owner?

Any chance someone stole a dog and the dog made a run for it? 4951

Did I interrogate him or ask for proof of ownership...no, I didn't. There was nothing to make me suspicious of any wrong doing. Thankfully, the other dog (same breed) didn't follow him.
I have to keep the car windows all the way up when I have my small dog with me. 4951

Because people think it's "cute".  Of course, I subscribe somewhat to Darwin's theory of evolution.  For either the dog, or its owner.  Emoticon 4951

My dog makes Picasso pictures on my windows because I don't let her hang out so she smears spit all over them instead. I open them just a crack and she is fine. I'm always afraid she will jump. 4951

That has always been a fear of mine!  Glad the dog is safe.We went to a little beach one time and our little Yorkie jumped out of the Suburban window after we parked.  I nearly had a heart attack!  She was so excited to get to the beach.  I was worried that she would get hurt because it was such a long jump for her.  Thank goodness she was fine.   4951

Could have been tragic... they make seat belts for dogs and there are a number of places you can get them for free.  My pooch has one, she can be in the window but the seat belt prevents her from jumping out. 4951

My adorable, yet slightly less than intelligent dog, will often make flying leaps from too high places. Usually it's out of someone arms but he has jumped out of a moving golf cart and off the front of a boat into the water. When he rides in the car with me I only let the window down enough for him to barely get his nose out. 4951

I only let mine have the window open when I am the passenger and have hold of his harness and leash.  They do love the air blowing in their face.  I have to wonder if the dog that jumped isn't very sore today.  Poor thing! 4951

Lucky dog. I know the pet car seats look a bit silly but they will save your pet in an accident.  4951

That was one lucky dog! Holy cow. I use a doggie seatbelt extender to clip him in and then I only crack the top of the window a few inches. 4951

I attache my dogs collar to the shoulder seat belt when he rides with me with a simple spring type c clamp. 4951
