All, it saddens me that I am posting this, but I feel I have no other option.I have a 6 year old Bernese Mountain Dog that I would like to find a home for.The history:On 2/23 I had to put my female down due to age and her legs giving out. She was a 9 year old Bernese Mountain Dog. She was wonderful.Since that time the male is suffering from severe anxiety disorder. He is completely lost without her.The GOOD:I love all dogs, but obviously I love this breed the most (personal preference)     * You will not find a more loyal companion than this guy     * He loves attention (in a great way)      * He is the happiest dog in the world (* see below)      * He is wonderful with other pets and children      * He is has an amazing personality      * He is extremely handsome      * He is a pure bred with papers (breeder from Double Oak, Texas (near Dallas)      The Challenge:     * His separation anxiety is extreme (damaging house)     * He is currently on medication (trazadone - 'prozac' for dog) and Acepromazine for times when he needs to be sedated (mainly when left alone and storms are occuring)     Again, I am trying to place this guy into a home with the following strict stipulations (because he is worth it). I can no longer care for him as my work schedule does not allow. I am not ditching him, but trying to find him a home where he can love and be loved.RULES:     * Must be a home where there would be limited time alone               * He 'may' do damage if unattended. He will NOT do anything when in someones company     * Must be willing to love and care for him always     * Would be best if there was another dog     * Must remain an indoor dog (not a dog house dog)     * Must never be abused     * Must continue his healthy care     * Must be treated like a family memberI am willing to continue to pay for his kibble if needed, as he eats very good, and expensive food. I can have it shipped to you via Chewy.comI know people will have the fair share to say, both positive and negative, but this is not about back and forth. I am just trying to give him what he needs and deserves. I think he can lead a normal life with companionship, love and meds. This is the first time he has EVER been alone since his sisters passing. Brought him home as a pup in Dec 2010 and he has always had the kids or the female with him until Feb 23. He just is not coping with the situation.If interested, please message me privately and we can discuss.Thanks for taking the time read. 4951

@fudgiesmom2:

That's what I was thinking too. Could you rescue one from the rescue you got this one from? Then your dog would have a friend and you would be giving another one a good home. 4951

@fudgiesmom2: of course, but where my wife and I want to be in the future, bringing in another dog would not be fair to anyone..

I wish I could help but we are at our limit also.  I really hope you find a loving home.  They are beautiful dogs.  Maybe post a picture.  Sometimes that helps.  Good luck! 4951

@dotti573: I will. You actually may have seen them in the past. We live in the same hood.

I understand your predicament- however finding the dog a new home will only worsen his condition not improve it -and I promise you there is not a person out there to willingly take that on.
Is the dog crated while you are gone? If not- buy a crate and train him to it- eventually ( yes even at 6years) he will come to see it as his safe place. Our pup howled every time he was crated- he had severe separation anxiety- and now 6 months later he willingly goes to his crate and at night will sleep in it on his own with the door open.

Walks,walks and more walks- exercise is the best brain medicine there is for both humans and animals

Hire a dog walker to come in and walk the dog once a day while you are gone OR take home to doggy day care

I really urge you to reconsider- there is no way you can hold the next owner to your strict stipulations- there will ever be a better owner than you. You really can't hand off a problem dog and expect it's going to have a better life. Trust me on that one- my 3 were lucky - they ended up with me- but they are in a minority. 4951

@Squidward: Maybe I have then.  Unfortunately since my surgery in July I haven't been able to walk my crazy dog.   I have to have my DD take her in the back and run her into the ground with a chuck it or frisbees.  I may try one of the pincher collars so I can try walking her again.  She just pulls to hard and she is too much for me.  I've tried the gentle lead and she will lay on the ground and not move and the harness is worthless.  She still pulls me down the street on the way out.  The way back she is calm.  She is too strong for my DD also.

@Jpgurl: Couldn't agree with your more. He is walked daily. Long walks along spring creek on weekends. I have tried many of the suggestions. He has broken, and I mean broken, 3 crates. It sickens me to think that I am trying to pass on a problem to someone, because that has crossed my mind. I am trying to save this boy. That's all.

@Dotti573, please don't buy that collar.  They have a nose collar you can get, and it goes around their nose, and neck.  It stops the pulling immediately.  So easy, and in a few walks your dog will not pull anymore.  We did this to train my massive lab to not pull on walks.They have them at PetCo.  I don't know the name, but they are like a lead collar.  They will know at PetCo.  And they work the minute you put them on. They are cloth and do not harm the dog at all.  Dogs aren't fond of them, but that is good, they learn fast to not tug on the leashEmoticon

@Fallon: doesn't work with all dogs. My pup clawed his face trying to get it off. Did not stop the pulling at all- it wore a bare spot on the bridge of his nose. We gave it a break and reintroduced it-same thing. Repeated it. It was a great teaching tool for Ole Man TJ but not Koda. So far we've been doing positive reinforcement training with a choker, the Halti, the harness. He is a crazy nut and even the treats are useless when he gets excited. Consistency and time, consistency and time. He's starting to get a bit better with humans, running and folks biking but all bets off if there's another dog or any animal 🙄
