Picking a gray paint is torture! We are getting ready to put our house on the market and are painting our downstairs one neutral color. I want a warm gray but every color we put on the wall looks horrid. Too green, too purple, too light, too dark, too silver, too muddy. Sheesh they all look great on the swatch! And we definitely need to paint as our current color is way too dark and was popular 8 years ago when we moved in--new color will make it show much better/seem updated. Back to paint store today to try a 15th+ gray. 😳 4951

Find something at a home goods store, like a throw pillow or something, with complimentary colors of what you are going for in your head, and take it with you. That way, it should help make the colors come together and give you something to go off of when selecting your paint. If you don't already have something grey themed in your house, it is going to be hard to imagine how a color is going to fill out a room. 4951

greys and taupes are the hardest colors to get right. I steer clear of these myself. Maybe rethink the color and go with something even more neutral. Nomadic desert is a great neutral color for any pallet/scheme. 4951

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter is what we did our house in. And then varying tones of darker. Had it mixed at SW. Been looking at it 3 years and I still love it. It looks different depending on lighting and time of day. Good luck. Grey is super difficult. 4951

@yankeejessica: we used that in 2 places- master bath and upstairs game room. Depending on time of day it will look like the perfect grey ( to me) in the bath and then takes on a subtle green cast on cloudy days and at night. The opposing walls there are beige with a red base. Up in the game room - it looks grey with more green undertones- the opposing walls there are a grey with a blue base. It is definitely a versatile color. People don't believe it's the same color in 2 different rooms

I want paint for Easter. Lol
Been trying to pick colors since I got here.
Dh wanrs a light /medium grey in his home office.
As was said, to light, to dark, to blue.
I told him it's a commitment cause I'm only doing it once.
I don't want hard dark colors but, I don't want a pastel rainbow either. No harsh contrasts. I'm in 1100 square feet about.
We are getting rid of most of what we have brought with us. A love/ joy thing.

look at the swatches in theroom you are going to paint for the way the light affects the appearance. you can also get very small samples like 1/2 pints of different colors of gray, then just paint different sections to see what they look like...then decide and paint the whole room the color you pick.  4951
