I forgot how exhausting house shopping is.  For those of you who have a pool, how much more did you pay per sqft than a comparable house without a pool?  on a golf course?Like $25 more per square foot? 4951

I love the potential of it but it can be emotionally draining.

Do you have a list of must haves or are you going with the "I will know it when I see it."

For me, largest closets and most kitchen cabinets wins. I seem to have a million things for the kitchen but never have just the right serving dish for my needs. 4951

Pools tend to not drive the price much around here, at least from what I have seen.  Nice to have but people don't care for the extra operating/maintenance expense. I've seen direct golf course be a 15- 20% adder but you better hope the course stays solvent over your ownership period. 4951

@foxymamaDude, I was just thinkin' last week how glad I am that you didn't ditch or fo'get about us all here when you moved to the ATL.........Right On, foxy, Right On!Oh, and Best Wishes on the new home hunt.... With our last home (that we sold in December) I don't recall particularly paying any more, Square Foot wise, here, when we initially purchased, but it was definitely an added expense...Before purchasing a home with a pool, chica, since your hubs travels and you'll most likely be taking care of the home-front, are you comfortable with the continual upkeep and required maintenance... And do you think you guys will use and enjoy it....P.S.-  Super glad to hear that you're settlin' in there, and enjoying this new Chapter, my friend...

Yes, I go back and forth on keeping a pool maintained.  Is there a lot to do even with a pool service?Yes we found the perfect ranch house on a golf course but there is no community pool though the neighbor has a pool.  SO we continue our search.  4951

Pool service runs $150-$200/month here, so my guess is it would be similar in your area.  This doesn't count the extra electricity to run pumps and water when you top off or fill.  You can do it yourself if you have the time and inclination, get your water tested weekly and apply chemicals as needed, as well as skimming/cleaning and cleaning the filters periodically.   Also, the pool service is usually set up weekly, so if you want to do something at a certain day of the week not close to the day the pool person comes, you will likely need to do some skimming and light cleaning as well.  Not a lot of work.  4951

I'm in the same boat of seriously looking since we've decided to stick around and just upgrade a weekend home elsewhere. My wife's expensive tastes and my tightwad tendencies are on a collision course. 4951

@foxymama, if you found the perfect house, a pool location wouldn't come into the equation for me.  A perfect house in a great location trumps all else.  You can always get to a pool.If you were on a golf course, could be the course has a club house and a pool.  And if you dh golfs then that is all kinds of a win win situationEmoticonGood luck on this search.  I loved looking at house, for the first few days.  Then I got over it real quick.  lolYou will find the perfect house for your family.  At least in Houston you can use a pool nearly year around.  In Atlanta, that isn't the case.  And you would need to make sure you get a strong pool cover for safety for your dd.  I always thought we were the only people that were looking for a house with no pool.  I didn't want to deal with the headaches.  I haven't regretted it once.

@Fallon:

I don't want a pool...with some on the KW market currently, with enough rain, the pool comes to you.

Yeah. There's the livable forest and the inhabited river bottom. This just happens to be the latter.
