I need someone affordable that knows their stuff. I'm having trouble growing grass in front and have tried a few things. It's very shaded. I think I need more dirt and the right seeds or sod. Maybe someone that can suggest a good landscaping company.

I'd like honest reliable company or person.

Any suggestions? 4951

@king713

Have you tried to go somewhere place like the Kingwood Garden Center? They are pretty knowledgeable about that kind of stuff, and it would have to be a lot cheaper! Any landscaper might be able to drop some sod for you, but you're not going to know whether or not they knew what they were doing for a long time. Just my opinion. 4951

@king713: If you haven't already tried this, I suggest purchasing some shade tolerant St Augustine (Seville, Sapphire, or Palmetto) sod from one of the sod farms in this area, most of them are in Dayton and Crosby.  Also, the landscaper's list on one of the local mulch suppliers website should provide a reasonable contractor for laying the sod.   4951

@king713:  I had a problem keeping grass alive in my front yard.  Turns out that there was almost no topsoil and it was mostly clay.  Matt at Prime Lawn did a total redesign, added sprinklers and relandscaped.  For the soil, they used a special tiller and mixed in a truckload of fruit and vegetable compost without damaging existing tree roots, then laid sod.  He's not cheap but he does great work!

I wouldn't call PrimeLawn - he's tooooooooo busy. He came out to my house a month ago went over the changes I want to make, told me he'd have a proposal to me by the end of the week... I still don't have it. After numerous calls to his office I was told he wasn't going to get to it as he is VERY busy and is booked solid through April and to just find someone else. True story.SO, if you want someone who is actually going to DO the work, don't call PrimeLawn! 4951

On the flip side,Warren's was very speedy and thorough with their proposal! They seem reasonably priced. Their nursery has helped me in the past, I bet they could help you too!YardBirds has taken a while to get their proposal submitted and it has a lot missing, but once I address that I am sure they will add it in. They also seem higher priced than Warren's. 4951
