Restaurant Brands, the owner of Burger King and Tim Horton's Dougnuts is buying out Popeyes.  Popeyes was created by Al Copeland of New Orleans.  He eventually sold it to Sandy Springs Corp but kept the contract to make the seasonings for the chicken and I think for the red beans.I love Popeyes chicken but I cannot find any around here that consistently sell the "spicy" chicken.  We always order spicy but rarely get it.I hope the new owner fixes that problem and doesn't decrease the quality.  I can't eat fried foods very often, but Popeyes chicken is my favorite (if it's spicy). 4951

I rarely get spicy when I ask even if it's actually "Spicy" there's barely any seasoning anymore. I prefer Church's Tuesday deal. Bigger pieces of chicken. 4951

Al Copeland quit quit school at a young age. Started a bunch of businesses. He passed away years ago. I remember he use to race boats with Donnie Osmund back in the 80's. Chicken is super unhealthy but it is good. 4951

Last time we went to popeyes by kroger, my wife got a neck. Vertebrae, spinal cord and everything. Damn shame, I love the chicken. But she won't let us go back. 4951

@donnatella: So far never had a bad experience at that one.  If I eat Popeye's I want to eat at that one.

@beastmode:  Al Copeland had a showroom with his racing boats right off of I-10 in Metairie.  He also used to have fantastic light displays for Christmas at his house near the lake until his neighbors complained about the number of cars crowding the streets. He moved the lights to Popeye's HQ but it wasn't the same.  When he opened Copeland's restaurants, they were one of our favorite places to go when we lived near New Orleans. There used to be a Copeland's of New Orleans on Richmond Ave, but it wasn't quite the same.  I think it closed down years ago.  I think the last time I passed that way, an apartment complex was on the site.
