Educate yourself to see what your eating that triggers it ...I have Gerd and had to go to the doctor for treatment to control it... Don't use any OTC acid reducers for long periods because there have been serious debate lately that they increase bone lost and memory, my doctor change my to Zantac 300mg which is consisted old school treatment that doesn't effect bone loss etc.http://www.emedicinehealth.com/gastritis/article_em.htm 4951

Are you seeing a gastroenterologist and had an endoscopy. Tested for H. pylori bacteria?
Major antibiotics might take care of your problem. Stress can also be a factor.
Don't suffer as prolonging treatment can result in ulcers and worse. See a specialist. 4951

@Sniper12: Thanks, I keep a journal on everything that goes into my mouth.  Fainting is a side effect I have so I have to be extremely careful. One food I have found at Natural Kitchen that doesn't bother me is Nomato Sauce. Learning a little each day, unfortunately via trial and error.

@lola: Yes and he gave me a probiotic, text last year showed it to be mild. One fear I have is it developing into something else, trusting God to help me avoid the bad stuff.

I noticed that I suffered more when overeating, late meals, especially when alcohol was involved. I was also under a lot of stress working full time and taking 12 college hours.

@lola: This discussion is helpful, especially when it seems as if you are all alone in this.  If I eat late, it's a fruit and you are right I had Moscato and suffered.   Changing a life time of poor eating habits is the hardest, avoiding social settings is difficult as well because people do not understand.Trying to avoid stress is difficult, I worked for Worldcom and we all know what happened there, so now I have to work extra just to be able to enjoy a few of life's pleasures.

Tell your doctor that you aren't getting relief. The antibiotics really helped me.
I would still have bouts and some nights I was up all night. Using pillows and elevating the head of the mattress helped a little. Some nights I woukd sleep in a chair. The burning and hurting in my esophagus continued for days even if there wasn't any acid actually coming up.
Your doctor has probably told you that losing weight may help.
I know it's really hard to make the changes needed. Some days I didn't know if eating made me sick or eating and having something in my stomach would make me feel better.
Start with small changes. No alcohol. No eating after 6. Have bland foods like rice, bananas, yogurt and eggs available so you are less tempted to eat fast food that can be greasy.

I've had two bad flare ups where i was throwing up green acid and the pain was like a knife was slashing through stomach tissue. Worse than having two broken bones or having a baby. I'm so sorry you all have also gone through the pain as well.
Try drinking bone broth and take a good probiotic. Keep aloe vera juice handy it helps with the burning in your esophagus. I take pepcid ac complete and I don't recommend it I'm pretty much dependent on it.
Get well soon! 4951

@Champagnechola:

It sounds strange, and doesn't always work if it gets too bad, but I found that papaya enzymes help me in place of the Pepcid, especially if I take them as a preventive instead of waiting until it's too late. I also take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 8oz of water and honey 3 times a day. 4951

Once you rule out H Pylori, it's pretty much just taking the OTC omeprazole and see if that works.  It's mostly an acid control issue, as too much acid is what causes the problems in the first place.  I've been there, had the scope, made sure it wasn't an ulcer and then managed a year or so on omeprazole, then quit it entirely.  I eat reasonably and have been fine for several years now.  4951

@Tex17:  Avoid green leafy vegetables, acidic fruits, which tomatoes are including in juices,  and carbohydrate rich foods to decrease acidity until you reach an acceptable baseline
