Fresh squeezed lemon in water, shot of apple cider vinegar in the morning on an empty stomach, boiled garlic clove, tsp of cayenne pepper.
Lemon water several times a day while taking cherry extract pills and milk thistle pills 3x a day.

No red meat or shellfish for a long time. limit chicken to 5oz 2x a week and eat lots of veggies. Fish with scales are good. Avoid asparagus and others that are high in purines. Absolutely limit alcohol at all costs, and NO beer or red wine.

I speak from the heart on this and hope your mother feels better. Gout is a B&t@h and the most painful thing ever to pass though my soul. 4951

@Sniper12:

Totally feel your pain. I tried it a few times. It made me feel uncomforable. It can upset your stomach and give you a feeling as if your liver will die. It did help immediately relieve the gout attack. Because I do not want to take it again I decided to change the diet and avoid the situation altogether.

I keep a few pills handy just in case the devil shows up in my toe again. Good luck to you my friend. 4951

@ET: Agreed 100%. Gout is a form of arthritis and should be taken seriously and treated medically. The comforting benefits can be great but should be used along with medical care. 4951

Please ask her to visit a rheumatologist. I battled gout for years. While diet and holistic remedies can mitigate symptoms, once one has experienced a gout episode, it's certain more are on the way, In this day and time, there are so many medical options available that nobody should needlessly suffer from the disease. 4951

Bingo - can be treated well, lifestyle changes help but don't completely eliminate and prevent attacks, and there are safe medicines that can prevent recurrent attacks.  4951

@91BW: I went to Doctor this morning and the Dr. ordered blood work and gave me Indomethacin ,Allopurinol and for future back up Colchicine. I started the allopurinol so far so good but as I been reading further this pill take time to kick in... Hate reading the pill information sheet that crap can scare you out of not taken the meds, like Indomethacin in bold letters in the first paragraph this med may raise heart and blood vessel side affects like heart attack and stroke!!!. I'm on divan for high blood pressure and to add this in the system??? Don't know if I will take that even after I talked to the pharmacy and my Doctor to see if there's any issues and both say no.Let me you guys that I have been hit with shrapnel from RPG in the legs and foot and to compare the pain with gout, I would rather take the hot shrapnel anytime...

gout sucks.  I took allopurinol for awhile - yes, it takes a while to kick in.  in fact, for a short time, my gout got worse.  my pcp gave me a round of steroids during that time  i am now able to control it by diet modification. corn is a big ole trigger with me.  and really it's processed corn products that do it.  fritos, corn flakes, mexican tamales (masa) - if I eat too much of any of those, sends me into a deep attack. red meat really doesn't affect me, shrimp - I can have no more than a dozen, any more and it will trigger.  crab, can't touch it at all. lobster in moderationwater is my best friend.  tart cherry juice (or extract) works some times - as well as apple cider vinegar (with mother).  but if I keep enough water going thru me, I'll be good. 4951

@91BW: Really, all that in one day? It sounds horrible but if it works I guess is worth it. Thank you for sharing. Hope you well.
