I am neither endorsing nor criticizing but wonder about reactions.  20% tax/tariff on products from Mexico base on a congressional proposal endorsed by the White House.  I am curious about reactions. 4951

Only because the president of Mexico isn't playing ball.

Let's let it ride for awhile and see where it leads. 4951

20% more for Corona, and a bunch of fruits and vegetables.  I can probably swing that, and finance the wall.  4951

The Mexican President was propped up by one of the main drug cartels. People in Mexico know the guy is as dirty as dirty gets. The main revenue of Mexico is US money sent there back to relatives. This is their main source of income. That and drug money. Sham country.     4951

@FoFa: Why should the President of any country play ball,  succumb, to a negotiating position where their country is the rotting fruit that fell off the tree.I have no personal concerns because I buy most of my veggies from Europe, but unlike most of Kingwood's privileged population, a random few might find such increases in essentials challenging.I know of few 1 sided negotiations.  Obviously, spouse and pre-teen children excluded.  Seldom, but I did rally to a tortured in a random case of the latter because those2-3 times I CROSSED THE ALPS ON AN ELEPHANT!  I am still waiting for my 1st spousal victory. 4951

This is how negotiating starts. Start from the top and work to the middle. Love it. The money the wall will save the US in education, healthcare, social security, housing subsidies from less illegals will pay for that wall. Or as mexico's ex pres calls it "that "f ing wall".

No, he pulled out of their meeting next week, where they could negotiate, not even trying.

MAN talk about contributing to climate change, buying from Europe, how much fuel does that take to get here!

Mexico has no leverage. Nieto is saying he will focus on supporting immigrants in the US. What? This is not going to end well for him. Only hurting his own people.  4951

Hold on just one minute! Since when do we get our fruits and vegetables from Mexico? I thought all of those workers were coming here and stealing out fruit/veggie picker's jobs?! *insert sarcasm* 4951

@FoFa:No GMOs, pharmaceuticals or chemicals t harm my progeny AND they fly in on KLM.  That airline is more concerned with carbon imprint than most.  And now, no price change.  If only Amstel were as to my liking as Negra Modelo.   No options with Soto, Mezcal or Tequila. 4951

I have heard many times that the average American citizen is ignorant to how much Mexico buys from us, how many times America in the last twenty years has been in debt to Mexico in terms of dollars, and ignorant to how Mexico is vital to our economy.  As much as I research I cannot find many reputable sites that break that information down or state unbiased numbers about the cold hard facts; not editorials, not news articles; just the numbers so we can see past the rhetoric. Does anyone know where to obtain this information?  Mulmye, any suggestions?  I know I can't answer your question without more data and I for one cannot find excellent sources. Excellent meaning "numbers" not opinions. I know from past posts you are not looking for baseless opinions you are looking for an honest debate on the issues and I am willing to learn more to consider your question in a knowledgeable way. Though it may not be tonight because I am very hungry and tired right now but I can PM you if you would like.So thank you in advance to anyone that can direct me to unbiased data on this issue. 4951

This 20% is just a proposal. There are many on the table but this one was probably the most eye opening to shove in the Mexican President's face. The wall is getting built around the hot spots, that was going to happen regardless. Congress approved it before Obama. Many ways to make them pay for it as well. Tax on all money transactions to Mexico or any mail going to Mexico. Phone calls to Mexico. Really an easy thing to do.       4951
