>> Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, ahead of English.
This is one area that I really think America is choosing the wrong battle. we are so angry at illegal immigrants and pressing "1" that we are not only shooting ourselves in the foot, we are mistakenly doing it proudly!
It has never hurt a person to know more than 1 language. Ever.
@BooBear:
By your illogic, there should also be a link to Mandarin. Countries are identified by the language they speak, partly. Spanish like all Latin based languages is ugly. And if Santa Ana would have been a half decent general we'd be talking Spanish now.
@farrell: not really. I believe it makes more sense for us to learn Spanish as they are our neighbor. If France were next door, it would be French. Yes, I realize a lot of Canadiens speak French and maybe if you lived up north it might be more beneficial to learn French.
I don't understand the illogical conclusion that a language is inherently bad. The consequences of that is that our children will be even more behind than we already are in the world.
@BooBear: I didn't say bad, I said ugly. When you write your reasoning, that is what I base my argument on. You used numerical value, not proximity. To use proximity, if Mexicans or other Central Americans come here as neighbors, why don't they bother to learn English first? As they are our neighbors.
