My son needs to take his cat in to see a vet and since he will be a new patient he can not get an appointment for over a week at the vets I have used.   Atascazoo can see him tomorrow.  I just was wanting to hear your experiences with this vet.  My son is on a budget so I am hoping that it is reasonable as far as charges go and of course, that they are good at treating pets.  4951

I have friends that go there and love them. There's also a vet that gives the first visit free. I don't know if they still do that. I think it's lonestar but I'm not sure. 4951

Loved Atsazoo, never had a problem getting a appointment on the weekend. They are open 7 days a week & don't charge extra for weekend.

They are good. We had to take our cat there that got hit. Ended up being put to sleep but they were very loving and caring 4951

I've been pleased with Loop 494. They're friendly and usually can get me in within a day or two. Their prices are better than
Most in the area. Which is why I started going there. 4951

I used to go there. It's been while, but you have to be careful with which vet you see, because some of them will find ways to keep the cost down, and another one (Dr. Batra) tries to take you for a ride and nickle and dime you to death. Dr. Jensen is my favorite. I also like Dr. Kiker, Dr. Madigan and Dr. Ludlow. You CAN ask who is working that shift and request a particular vet. I am not saying Dr. Batra gives poor care, just saying she likes to pile on the tests and shots. 4951

Thank you!  Our son just moved into a new home (they had lived here for a while to save for it) and the cat is over grooming and stressed with the move and also a new baby that needs lots of attention.  He has tried giving the cat lots of TLC and even some kind of over the counter remedy that is supposed to calm cats but it isn't getting better .  When I called for an appointment they sounded very nice and can see her tomorrow.  4951

Soxs mom, at least your son is going to get kitty help tomorrow. I don't know much about cats but I know that a new baby can stress kitty out. 4951

@sweetie: Yes, I know from my own cat that they don't like change or new family members.  So we have a double wammy. This was a stray cat that our son found under his house when he was in college.  It has always been a little nervous anyway and now she must be around 10 years old so that doesn't help.  Our cat was not too fond of them living here, lol..but now we think she may be missing son's cat because she has been acting a little odd herself since they moved out. it was a bit of a love-hate relationship I think.

@soxs mom:

I didn't think about this, before, but have they tried cat pheromones? You can get it in plug ins, but it is expensive. If you were the one that had a thread about the nervous cat, I will warn you about one thing, if they suggest pills to ease the anxiety. Pilling a cat can be really stressful to most cats. If the cat will actually eat a pill pocket, AND the pill, success, but it has been my experience that they eat the pill pocket and spit out the pill, and trust me, they might not spit out the pill where they are eating the pill pocket. You might not find it for several days - two rooms over. Those cats are sneaky!

I have done enough cat rescue that I consider myself pretty good at pilling cats, but even with all of that experience, it is still stressful to the cat. I think cats just don't like to take pills, no matter how easy they go down. I do know they have changed things up quite a bit when it comes to animal meds so my suggestion is, if they recommend a drug, have them ask if it is available in a patch. Don't know if they offer patches for cats, because of their grooming habits, but it's worth a try if they suggest the meds route for treatment.

Depending on the vet's diagnosis, your kitty may be getting her friend/enemy back. Lol 4951

@ExBlue: Yes, he tried pheromones that he bought at the pet store.  He thinks it may have helped a little but she is still a bit of a wreck. Thanks for the tips about the pills. I will tell my son. This is not an easy cat.  She is afraid of most people and hides a lot.  I think giving her a pill will be a challenge so if there is a patch available that would be ideal.  4951

AtascaZoo had always been great with my dog & cats. Always able to find an open appointment and treat both the animals and humans with kindness and respect.

I hope your son can find a solution for his kitty. 4951

I used Atascazoo for 16 years, until my dog died in 2008. They were excellent, very caring. However, I recommended them to my mother last year and she found them to be very expensive.

My mom and I now use Lake Houston Vet Clinic in Huffman, near the Dairy Queen on 1960. Better prices, caring service. 4951
