Been using them for years. They will take out any scuff mark. Can't help a deep scratch but for tar, general scuffs it will remove them no problem with a little elbow grease and water. Trick is to keep the clay and area wet, either with a spray bottle or hose and keep working on it. Eventually it will get into the pores of the scuff and paint and basically pull it out. I removed a couple today from our new car (6 months). Don't even know how the marks got there but they are gone now. 4951

@beastmode:  How does it affect the clearcoat?  Paint?  I've always been afraid of those bars -uneducated. 4951

A good wash, clay bar and wax will not hurt a clear coat from my experience.  1.  Wash with a wax based soap2.  Wash with a non wax base soap (dawn)3. Clay bar entire car.4. Wax car with a good carnauba wax.5. Repeat every 6 months. Been using this process for years. Just traded in a 05' BMW and the paint job still looked great. It had some blemishes but that was deep scratches from projectile objects that also caused minor dents..bottles and whatever else hit the car on the highway.    4951

I used this on my ENTIRE car when my sprinkler had sprayed my car and cooked in the sun for a few days when I was out of town. It was a kit I had found online after googling. LABOR OF LOVE, but it took the water marks off of my ride. 4951

@beastmode: My car was hit in the Kroger parking lot. There is a lot of red paint on the back end and side. Is one type of clay bar better than another?

@Gramoda: Get once from any auto store or online. It's just a bar of clay, don't think there is that much difference. Think I got mine from Advanced last time. It should take the red paint out but keep it wet and keep at it. Should take it out. Never had an issue getting something like that out.
