Just shaking my head at this...http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/01/19/seriously-schools-to-blackout-trumps-inaugural-address.htmlThey played coverage all day of 9/11.  Even in middle school! Upset my boys, and if I had known, I would have gone and picked them up.  Silly me, I thought they were "safer" at school.If my child wanted to watch the inauguration, I would keep them home tomorrow. 4951

@Veritas:

I have no idea. When I was in school a long, long time ago, we watched historical events.
I think it would certainly be appropriate for middle school and high school students. What do you think? 4951

"Alright students, gather around. We're about to watch a movie called "Hitler Takes Over The White House" ".
Lol. Yeah I don't want my kids to see something so shameful either. 4951

@CC1974: We watched those god-awful science experiment educational films. Well, I definitely think middle school and high school students could get something out of it especially if it was coupled with a government or history lesson. You know, something meaty, so they can learn something. Maybe if they watch the inauguration the lesson will stick in their memory more.

I don't think we ever watched it in school, but I don't see any problem with a teacher showing it. A lot of schools had voting days for students to teach them about our voting process. I wonder if the school that is banning it allowed the voting. If so that would be odd. 4951

@FairieMae: I am so sorry. How inexcusable of the teachers!  The coverage of 9/11 messed me up and I'm a grown up.

They didn't show 9/11 at my kids schools- they sent the kids home.
They also didn't show the inauguration in my time or my kids time. Not opposed to it 4951

i'm sorry...did anyone actually READ the piece from fox?  fox specializes in trying to promote outrage and they succeed because so many dont READ.  a) it is an OPINION piece, not a news articleb) it is about TWO schoolsone school is an elementary school in michigan. the administrator was concerned with exposing young children to trump with his history of 'inappropriate language'."I am anxious about showing Mr. Trump’s inaugural address, given his past inflammatory and degrading comments about minorities, women, and the disabled,” he wrote. “I am also uneasy about Mr. Trump’s casual use of profanity, so I sought an assurance that as their teacher, I would not be exposing children to language that would not appear in G or PG-rated movies.”the other is a high school in tennessee.  "Independence High School is going to focus on learning and moving forward and staying on curriculum and they would not be stopping class for the inauguration,” Mrs. Roberts said. “She told me that news happens every day in this country and they won’t be stopping class to watch the news.”or you could extend the schoolyear by a day and add that to the budget...local schools, local control, folks. isnt that the mantra? so it really isnt any of our business 4951
