This drives me crazy to see Facebook friends who check-in at MD Anderson for non-cancer matters, knowing full well they don't have IT, and knowing just mentioning being near it will whip their friends and family into a dramatic worried frenzy. It is FRAUD.

Yes, you may be there seeing a specialist, but for a non-cancer issue, and you know it. You know full well that the mere mention of MDA is like sending up the Bat Signal to your people to worry about you and flood your thread with well-wishes, prayers and over-hyped attention.
FRAUD, pure fraud, and you should be ashamed!!! 4951

It would be way more interesting if they checked in at the free clinic. 4951

My SIL does that all the time with her son - checks into TCH (Texas Childrens) then when people freak out she says - oh, his doctor is part of that group, he's just in for his yearly check-up.  4951

It is fraud to check into a place you are actually visiting? Does it matter the reason they are there? Goodness, some people will find anything to complain about!!! 🙄🙄🙄 4951

@HoofHearted: They know that being at and checking into MDA on FB without despelling fears right away will cause drama. "Waiting for my appointment" or "getting blood work" puts off a general assumption by many that you have a diagnosis or could soon be a cancer patient.

If you have never dealt with getting news of a family member receiving a diagnosis, you might not understand the paralyzingly fear that can follow. It's just a cruel things to do to your family and friends if you are there, check in on FB and not quash fears.

I had surgery @ MD Anderson 2012, no cancer. The best endocrinologist surgeon in this area is there. 4951

When you log in to their wifi it will automatically check you in if you click or don't click some very tiny box when accessing their internet from your device. I did that once on accident and learned the hard way. 4951

@lisapisabobisa: Yea but these people say things like "sitting here anxiously waiting..." or "about to get blood drawn" or something ominous. Not "here for checkup...no worries peeps." Of course, that wouldn't stir up the "OMG" replies they are sure to get. Had a couple of "friends" who did that habitually, and they just had to go. 4951

Ah, yes. The ol' cryptic Facebook posting....it's a great way to get attention....which is what most people on Facebook really want. I have some relatives who do this kind of thing all the time. So annoying. "Please pray for my daughter....""Why, what's wrong??"[crickets]  4951
