Do we have a mardi grad parade ? I know a few years ago they had a very small one. I miss my hometown's parade. I took kids last yr to Galveston for the kid parade & dog parade. It was fun. 4951

I think you have to go in town (Houston) or like you spent last year down in G-town to find something going on. I have never heard of a local parade going on here but maybe there is a closer celebration so that you don't have to go too far. 4951

@pickles: Maybe one of the 37 local Baptist churches does one?

There is usually a parade in Kingwood's Towncenter and live music afterwards. It's a small parade – nothing like the parades in New Orleans. 4951

I went once it was small, yet appreciated. I would go if you want to avoid the crowds. Have crawfish, go to the parade, and buy a King cake to take home. 4951

One thing I like about Mardi Gras is the smaller parades is where all the fun is happening. The big monster ones in NO are fine but those are for the tourists. I have been to both and by far the best fun is the local parades. They are normally very family oriented, during the day and it has less to do about drinking and just enjoying the spirit of the town. Mandeville, Covington, New Roads La. All those are great fun. Would be nice to have something like that here but it would have to be started from the ground up. We have a 4th of July Parade in Forest Cove. They said back in the 80's it was a real deal event. Block parties, everybody smoking meats, staying up all night before the parade...love listening to the old timers talk about it. 4951

It's rumored @Boobear celebrates year-round to collect beads. 4951
