And it appears it won't be long before Houston surpasses Chicago in population....and yes in crime.  How many murders have we had in Houston over the last twelve months?. How many smash and grabs have we had? With the proliferation of guns Houston is slowly returning to the "good old days of the wild west".
@calguy: Looking at top 39 cities - murders/1000 residents, Houston doesn't even make the list. Chicago is #30. Safety (sort of) in numbers I guess. www.neighborhoodscou t.com/top-lists/high est-murder-rate-citi es2016/

@ET:  Actually, it's just Chicago Heights that is #30.  It's like the rectum of Chicago.  There are also parts of Houston that I will not even drive through.

It doesn't surprise me that East St Louis and St Louis are #1 & 3.  I used to go to St Louis pretty often for business. Detroit is # 5 and also has very strict gun control laws.  New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA are also not a big surprise.  New Orleans was the murder capital back when we lived there.  From relatives that live in the area, Pine Bluff, AR has become a center for meth cooking and distribution.

Liberal politicians love to pass gun control laws, then not do anything with law enforcement, judges, and prisons to enforce those laws.  That way, they can keep pushing for MORE gun control laws until they achieve their ultimate goal of banning all guns in America.

There are no Texas cities on that list even though Texans are considered "gun nuts".  As a matter of fact, Texas is #18 of states on quantity of firearms per 1,000 people.

You'd be back in a flash....beginning to think you might be Mulmye.
@ET: Why is everyone giving @Mulmye a hard time. He sticks to his principles and rarely backs away from a good argument. He is probably a lot smarter than me or at least spells better.

@CantStandTex:

I'll go with both...uses fancier words, too.
Who was picking on him?  He left and promptly experienced a New Year's resolution failure.

I like mulmye. He is an apparent ass but he freely admits it. His opinions are well thought out and he can defend them even if I don't agree. I've also learned some more fancy words. I dont think he is as unreasonable as he may come across.

@Retired_Engineer: Kind of interesting that 11 of the top 25 are what texans would consider liberal states, 12 are what texans would consider northern states and 6 are firm Yankee land.

@CantStandTex:
This makes no sense..everywhere but Texas is yankee. Louisiana can be considered its own country and not Yankees
