I've lived in Kingwood for a little more than 2 years now and so far I've been disappointed with the internet service situation here. I currently use Suddenlink, and while the speed is decent, the data limit is frustrating for an active internet using family (250 gb). The price is above average, but there doesn't seem to be any serious competition. It would be nice to have fiber available for our area. Does anyone have any information about whether a fiber provider might be laying lines in Kingwood? It seems like the Northpark/Kingwood Dr. construction would be a good opportunity.I did manage to find some news from mid 2015 about fiber being put in South of Kingwood in a new Neighborhood off West Lake Houston. It looks to be pretty pricey based on this old information: "super-fast service requiring a $1,000 installation fee and a multi-year commitment to get the special promotional price of $159/mo."source: stopthecap.com/2015/ 07/29/fiber-to-the-p ress-release-comcast s-2gbps-service 4951

One can only wish.  Until the Suddenlink "monopoly" is forced out no company is going to spend the money it would take to come into Kingwood.  This has been an ongoing topic/question for the almost 30 years I have lived in the area.

I know what you mean, but I just wish the city would step up and help push the development instead of hindering it. I found an article about a California man who leased space in city electrical conduit under roads to run fiber cable, cutting the development cost by a lot. I wish I could find the link.

With the Northpark and Kingwood road construction, this seems like a great opportunity. I could imagine businesses and residents would appreciate access to affordable high speed internet. Whatever city council member pushes it forward would be a hero. 4951

You think whoever comes in here will be any cheaper after investing multimillions in infrastructure? That would be a NO.

My SL internet works really well. Had problems with CL, slow and quit all the time. My up time has to be 99.9% and it is fast. 4951

Not sure the COH has anything to do with the SuddenLink Monopoly?  Wonder who does?

Maybe right now those speeds are not needed by most, but at the rate technology develops I would rather see the infrastructure in place BEFORE everyone needs it. The US in general lags behind developed nations: http://testinternetspeed.org/blog/fiber-optic-internet-speeds-on-the-rise-around-the-world/ We can breed faster horses and make better buggies, or we can embrace the automobile. If you're interested in seeing the numbers on why this might be needed, read

@erfa:  For an additional $5/month, you can get unlimited data from Suddenlink.  They finally offered this right after I spent an extra $60 and $80 for data overage charges.  My son likes to play on-line games and stream movies.  We also stream movies frequently.  I also have 200Mbps speed and it rarely slows down or drops out.  They were able to save me money by bundling my house phone, internet, and cable TV together with the speed and unlimited data upgrade.

Thanks! I'll look into it. Right now it seems like Suddenlink is trying to charge me for something that I already had for free (unlimited data). Cable companies rarely seem so proactive in reducing your costs until you threaten to leave. I recently called to change my cell phone service from ATT to Google and it took me about 10 seconds to get more than $30 knocked off my bill. It makes me feel like I'm haggling for jewelry in a third world street market. 4951

@Ebola:

They are. SL's parent company is going to rip out all of the copper and bring fiber to the house. It'll be several years, but it's coming. Up to 10 gigabit per second 4951

@erfa:

CenturyLink is putting in fiber and has trunked connections in some villages; coverage is still extremely limited.

For all the rest (from them) it's plain DSL but you may want to check as an alt option.

Unfortunately SuddenLink calls the shots here and they are extremely slow to evolve. Not surprised...they are not even a US company. Their holdings are based in Canada. 4951
