800-900 layoffs coming with another 100-200 retirement or other attrition jobs lost.
Of course the executive vice president got one of the largest performance bonus ever, for 2016 bonus.

@FoFa:

That's just sad, because if there is one thing we know, it's that cancer never has a "recession", unfortunately. Emoticon 4951

MD Anderson is one of the best. Why the lay off? Unfortunately, it's always busy. 4951

@FoFa: I know business have to compensate people to take on that massive responsibility and keep good people at the top, but this news, in light of big layoffs, is just bad PR.

Cutbacks should be shared from the top down. At that salary range, he could have, as a gesture of solidarity and overall goodwill, foregone a planned salary increase or forfeited his bonus. It would have done wonders for morale. 4951

You'll find a lot of the med center will be hurting. $/endowments/etc that help cover overhead are heavily attached to the energy industry. 4951

One of the reasons cited was many insurance companies will no longer allow patients to us MDA, they have to go to an in network cancer facility. And, the insurance companies that do allow the patients to use MDA, they reimburse at a lower rate!

Remember...if you like your insurance you can keep your insurance & if you like your doctors you can keep your doctors! ? 4951

Another Obama casualty.

@doddlebug: This is the real issue and has always been the problem but it's always so much easier to just blame Obama. Please read this article .http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/MD-Anderson-set-to-announce-layoffs-today-10837056.phpEspecially these lines:Dan Fontaine, MD Anderson's executive vice president of administration and chief financial officer, would not disclose the highest salaried employee to be affected by the cuts. Senior executives have been criticized because some of DePinho's top lieutenants make in excess of $1 million a year. DePinho makes more than $2 million. This week he also received a $208,000 annual performance bonus, which he said he's donated back to the Houston cancer hospital.DePinho said the implementation of an electronic health record systems in 2016 was a key factor in the  losses. The system is expected top lead to more efficient care but in the short term forced physicians and other staff to spend significant time learning a new system - and less time with patients.

Does is make you feel superior to call names? Why not just debate and leave out personal insults? 4951
