Well i was reading some comments on dog food treat recipes and several people were saying peanut butter is bad for dogs.  I have only given it to my dogs rarely, thank goodness.  Found this article about it.http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/3-reasons-peanut-butter-isnt-safe-for-dogs-or-people/ 4951

@foxymama: I don't believe that. It's a food group for mine. She has never had a problem.

I think it is like most things; all things in moderation. As for the natural peanut butter, that's all I eat or give to my dogs. It has 2 ingredients - organic roasted peanuts and usually sea salt. 4951

Not saying Jif is bad, but some companies have started adding xylitol into their peanut butter and I don't think any brand is going to "announce" it on the label, should they decide to start adding it to their peanut butter.

I think for most dogs occasional peanut butter is ok. But just read ingredients. Some companies are adding xylitol to peanut butter and it is extremely toxic to dogs. 4951

I've been seeing a lot about this lately.  It's all "Peanut butter is bad for dogs!!!" to draw you into the story, then they explain that it is the xylitol in some brands.  My dog loves his JIF (but only the creamy, he refuses to eat the crunchy).  I also recently got a jar of all natural sunflower seed butter from my Aunt & the dog is the only one that liked the taste of it. 4951

@foxymama: We have been making dog treats with peanut butter for years and our dogs have never had a problem.  We will continue to use it in dog treats.

My grand dogs have never had problems either. I've been making them peanut butter "bones" for several years. I use organic peanut butter and whole wheat flour. 4951
