Hubby and I bought a new house in a new subdivision. We've been living here 2 months. The community is still under development, only a handful of houses are occupied. So far, everyone we've met has been super friendly and neighborly. Tonight I was in my front yard working on my Xmas lights, when a red pickup truck stopped in front of my house. The guy in the passenger seat, around late 20's early 30's with short red hair, said, "looking good". Assuming he meant the Xmas lights, I said thank you. Than he said, before I leave, can I interest you in some steak or chicken? I said no thank you. Then he said, don't you eat steak or chicken? I thought this was odd, so I said, I don't have room in my freezer, to winch he replied, I'll make room, I'm good at that. That made my skin crawl. I said No Thanks, and he drove away. I went in the house and wondered, in this day and age why would someone think that a person would take meat from a total stranger, and worse, he thought I would let him in my house to make room in my freezer? I got the feeing he was trying to get me to let him in my house. Luckily, I'm not naïve or stupid. My husband was at work and I was home alone. I put my gun in my pocket and went to my neighbors house. He grabbed his gun and went looking for the truck. 4951

Are enough people buy random meat from random trucks that this is a viable business? I won't eat meats that has been in my own fridge after a week, and I know where it's been and how it's been stored. The idea of buying it from a truck grosses me out beyond belief. 4951

Why do you feel you need a gun on a guy just peddling his meat? 4951

Get his license plate and call HPD next time. I'm an Officer on Night Shift, but all shifts are normally pretty good with response times. If anything we'll know who and what to be looking for if these incidents keep happening. 4951

Selling beef and chicken out of a truck has been a thing since the 90's and maybe before. I had a buddy that did that and made some good money. Those guys are given a script and always ask the same questions. They'll tell you it's restaurant quality and that it's individually wrapped and better than the stores. They're usually college kids trying to make a few bucks. 4951

And that they have a lot left over that they must get rid of that day so they will give it to you for a really great price. My BIL sells that stuff. He feeds it to us when we visit. It's gross. 4951

Just out of curiosity, what was the neighbor going to do if he found the truck?

Nothing says responsible gun owner like driving around looking for an altercation.

@mm4731:

Thank you, i was just thinking the same thing. You want to know why the Govt wants to take away gun rights? This is why. 4951

I doubt the guy was selling meat.  He was trying to get her to come over to his truck.  Very creepy. 4951

This wasn't a neighbor.  It was a vendor selling meat.

A real neighbor would come up to you, on foot, likely already out walking, leaving their house, crossing the street, etc. They would introduce themself, point out his/her house, and welcome you to the neighborhood. If they happen to sell something, they might not mention it at first or at all. They would focus on the neighborhood and things in common.

Your initial instincts were correct, but no need to be so frightened you constantly pack heat, unless that's just your thing.

@lcoupert: Grabbing guns, jumping in a pick up truck and hunting a door to door meat salesman? & he is the creepy one?
