What kind of wall anchor and wall hardware do y'all recommend for hanging a mirror onto a tile wall? Hanging 3 of these. One wall might have a stud under the tile where the screw needs to go, but the other two walls will just be tile with drywall behind it.

The mirrors are not too big, but they are pretty heavy around 20lbs each. They are frameless and have solid wood on the back. The hardware (on the actual mirrors) is already done - I had a framing shop add 2 new 'D' hooks on the back of each one and a new wire as well. I just need to know what I should do for the tile walls. Can one screw and anchor support a mirror, or should I do two for each one? The mirrors will cover up all hanging hardware, so it doesn't have to be a pretty hook or anything.

Whatch'allthink? 😉

We put in anchors before we laid tile. I know dh has an attachment to his drill that will go through tile. Not sure if it would be better to go through tile or grout- either way if you don't know what you are doing you risk cracking the tile. I also would not hang 20# anything in just dry wall- that's a disaster waiting to happen 4951

Id go with 2 for each one just to be on the safe side.
Drilling in the grout makes for an easy fix if you want to remove them.

No pic of the mirrors?

Don't drill thru grout unless you have to.  The tile helps to adhere and hold the hanger.  You need: 1.  A masonry bit for tile/concrete.  For the anchor size it is slightly larger than your hardware that you are using.  With a drill its quite easy.  Mark your spot, start slow to dig into the surface and then punch through.  In wall use a lead lag that you can tap in with a hammer. 2. Drywall i use these.  I've hung 100# mirrors with these with no issue but above rating have divided the weight over two or more. In this case, each is rated for 50#.   Punch, drive in and go.  hardwareonlinestore. com/index.php?option =com_virtuemart& amp;view=producEmoticonpcsclkid=ZAMbPsJcZwhu&ampEmoticonpcstrkid=1332290283&ampEmoticonpcsu=xhg7f5djqitnahsSimilar can be had at both Lowes and Home Depot.  Good luck to you in your project.  Emoticon 4951

Have you considered something like these Velcro sticky things? Peel and stick.
From what I read, they work good. I've not tried them however. Shown here stuck to a picture, with the other half ready to be peeled and placed on the tile.

@terilyntx: He means divide the weight limit, not put two for each d hook.

@FoFa:

I'm too chicken to try those. I would use no less than 150 of those for each mirror. 😜 If there was a way to be certain that they would hold forever, I'd be all over this option. I have a 4 year old boy, though... nothing in a bathroom is truly safe with a 4 year old boy. 😂 4951

I made a mistake. All well as to making the holes but when you said drywall I had wallboard stuck in my head and not tile.

In using a lead anchor you will need a barrel style...not the screw in type. The latter won't seat flush to the tile unless you drill a very large hole due to the taper. Apologies.

Either way two should be just fine for a 20lb mirror.

You know, another option I bet would work very good, and is reversalable, would be strips of Velcro, attached with silicon glue.
Silicone glue would not let go, as long as the tile was clean. Couple ribbons of Velcro across the back of each mirror. Plenty of holding power.
Any time I have a situation such as this, I usually turn to silicon glue. Glass, plastic, works great.
Glue a strip to the mirror, glue a strip to the tile, let them dry, hang. 4951

@lisapisabobisa:

Oh man, I went to so many places looking for mirrors. Spent 2 days driving all over and nothin'. I went ahead and ordered from a lady on Etsy. The mirrors made it from a town north of London in TWO DAYS! Crazy!

I'm excited, but wow, there is stress that comes along with the excitement. Glad the bathrooms are nearly done (I have one change order left on a hand shower - waiting on one small trim piece). Had the whole place painted last week. Next is millwork/baseboards, the stairs, doors & hardware, the very tiny kitchen, and a big built-in upstairs.

If we ever sell this place, these mirrors are coming with me!! 😜

Here's a before and after of my kiddo's bath.
