Quote from CNBC Article relative to what the Carrier "deal" will mean to other large corporations.Trump's deal with United Technologies includes $7 million in financial incentives provided by Indiana to keep 1,100 jobs at Carrier, the company's heating and air conditioning unit, in the state. However, Carrier still plans to move roughly 1,300 other jobs to Mexico and close another facility in Indiana. And you think the media manipulated the news about Trumps campaign? 4951

It's still 1,100 more Carrier jobs than Obama attempted to save. 4951

With his cabinet picks Trump is starting to worry me. I never thought Pence was a good fit for VP. It is still to early to tell for the both of them though. 4951

Actually, the move of line jobs to Mexico, doesn't affect the USA to the extent a lot of people think. Mexico has a very much lower turn over and absenteeism rate than American workers. Mostly because Americans don't like or feel the work is beneath them. We might not like to hear that, but it is what it is. Plus carrier is going to change over to automation. They have to drive the cost down to remain competitive. Automation will be a bigger problem than moving jobs to Mexico it is said, moving forward. As more companies move to automation, it drives the cost down to automate, making it more attractive. 4951

I believe that incentive is spread over 10 years or so.  And I doubt UTX is going bankrupt unlike some other gov't sponsored boondoggles over the past few years.. 4951

I read an article where the president of UT went to Mexico and spoke to the workers. He told them they have more talent and more dedicated then the American worker. 4951

Those 1100 jobs kept here will generate more tax gains long term than $7 million. Even at a meager 25K salary that's 27.5 million in taxes roughly. In a few years it will gain more than $7 million. Their net incomes will also bounce around in OUR economy, not Mexico generating more tax revenue. The math on it is so simple it makes one really wonder what is going on in D.C. in in terms of keeping jobs here.      4951

@king:

What are you going to tell them?
And by all reports, they do have more dedication, at least to the type of jobs that are moving there.
They are paid 80â„… less, are more dedicated, and think it is good pay.
You aren't going to **** them off. 4951

@mulmye: And if the company that makes the robotics is offered a deal to stay and their material suppliers are offered a deal to stay and so on that is success. Robotics and automation does not matter all that much. Yes, a lot of jobs are lost but if the companies are encouraged to stay it will work out. Have to see the big picture and big things start from small beginnings.

@BeastmodeUnited Technologies is the owner of such a company.  The design jobs will remain in the United States, the manufacturing jobs will not be in the United States.  The HS graduate expecting a $25.00+ an hour job  is always going to be angry.  Those will materialize by Presidential decree nor will the made in the USA create such loyalty that people will pay 25% for the same product while their 401Ks decrease in value. 4951
