Surgery is needed. So bummed for her *** hauling squirrel chasing passion. Took her to the vet and will be going to ortho dvm next week. Heart broken. Anyone deal with this? Hate seeing her getting around on three legs. @mm4731 didn't lil bastard have this problem? Did he use a brace? 4951

We had to do an ACL on our hound. Most expensive free dog ever. Used the place off 610 in Galleria area. 4951

@cgm10sne1:

Really wasn't bad but he is basically a slow moving hound anyway. Kept him from running a few weeks (not that big a challenge ) and good to go. 4951

"Fuzz Butt" blew out one of this rear legs.  Surgery completed and he did well.  Now that leg is stiff and affecting his gate.  Then  again he will be 15 this month.  Vet prescribed Rimady ,[75 mg split]   1/2 a  pill twice a day with a small meal.  It works for  him with none of the side affects.Wish it would work on me.  My biggest fear is that I might provoke a licking response of my crotch etc. 4951

No rehab on him? @et ? I'm reading up on post op and it seems to be critical for a good recovery. Distraught for pup and with holidays coming up no way we can travel. Fine by me....timing sucks though and no way can I let her limp around for fear she'd tear her other hind knee.  4951

@cgm10sne1:   JUST went thru this with the grandpup.  She is a little bigger than yours.   Spent several days trying to decide which of the two surgical options to go with....one has more potential issues, the other has longer recovery time.  Went with the less scary one.  She is now two months post op and is recovering slowly but well.   It's a long process tho, and you have to be very diligent about keeping them low activity.   Ours has been squirrel obsessed since a young pup and will literally launch herself off the deck into the fence.   She was just released to go up the stairs and to go on slow jogs for  a short time.Good luck!You know where to find me if I can help with questions. 4951

Recommendations for dvm surgery centers? I'm googling my *** off. Vet will give a reference but wanted to hear from anyone here. Loop 494 has a surgeon who does procedures at this location which sure would be closer and less travel for dog after procedure. Most surgery centers are in cypress, sugar land and the Bay Area. Wish there was somewhere closer to here. Needless to say, I'm stressed. I want the best care possible for her. 😪😓😳😳😔😖 4951

Let me just go the devils advocate route. We adopted a tripod pit a couple of months ago. Her back leg was shattered when she fell in a hole. I called a prosthetic guy about a brace but because the amputation was done so high there's nothing for the brace to hold on to. So, just in case the surgery can't fix her make sure you are ready to have a conversation about how high to amputate. ;-) good luck! 4951

If you want the best, you should go to Gulf Coast Veterinary Clinic off 610 West. They are expensive though. You will need a referral from your local vet. 4951

Very sad.  What kind of dog?When I was a kid, our rabbit's leg was broken (little brother accidentally dropped a brick on him).  My dad splinted it up with Popsicle sticks and tape.  He healed just fine.  Those were the good ol days. 4951

@monyhoney: When I was a kid, if one of our rabbits got injured, it was called DINNER!
