So i saw the eye doctor last week and got an new higher script than in the past with more prism in it now.  Both vertical and horizontal.  Maybe why i have been having chronic headaches. Anyways i have always bought glasses at places like Lens Crafters, Target, etc  But this time i descided to buy from the eye Doctors office since i need such specialized progressive lenses.  Just wondering what your experinces have been.  What places have you tried and do you like the box stores or prefer the more expensive doctor office? 4951

There is no difference in the glasses @foxymama.I love LensCrafters.

@Fallon: I used to go to lensecrafters but they really let me down last time I scratched my glasses really bad and just wanted new lenses and was told they couldn't do  it,they were going to charge me $750 for 2 pair (buy one get one free) but I only needed one.long story short I paid $50-$60 for a Cotsco a  membership and $150 for new progressive lenses with antiglare coating.

I just paid $500 for mine and I have Eye Med Advantage!  I am going to Walmart for sunglasses. My options for Eyemed here are a couple of eye doctors offices, Lenscrafters and Walmart.I know i got ripped on the frames cause i saw the same ones way cheaper online. but i also got the Progressive Kodak Unique lense, Microthin polycarbonate,Crizal Easy, Scratch, UV coating and my 7 prisms. It is so confusing shopping for lenses. 4951

I just take in my old glasses and have them put the new lens script into them. I've had the same glasses since 1988. Very cost effective. I paid like $18.00 4951

@FoFa: Right!  Too many choices, it was very confusing.  Plus i had my  restless 4 year old with me, that didn't help either.  4951

I went to America's Best.  It was the best deal for me, even without using my insurance (which would have been way more expensive).  My prescription is fairly simple and I got 2 pairs, plus the exam for $75.00.  That way when I scratch my favorite pair (& I will) I have a back-up pair of glasses.  Took my DS there for his as well.  My DH gets his reading glasses through the VA.  If I went somewhere else and used my insurance I would end up paying at least $200 for one pair of glasses. 4951

Btw, make sure you get RX sunglasses as well.  The sun can honestly damage your eyes.  You need the same RX in sunglasses as you have in glasses.

@Fallon:  The key for protecting your eyes is to get the UV coating on both clear and tinted glasses. Also, I've learned that the UV coating is a plastic coating.  I cleaned my previous glasses in hot water with just a bit of liquid soap.  Over time, I noticed some "scratches" that I didn't understand.  When I got a new prescription, I showed the woman at the eyeglass place my old glasses and told her how I cleaned them.  She explained the plastic coating and said hot water will soften the coating and make it peel off.  She said the liquid soap is fine, but to use cold or lukewarm water, NOT hot water, to clean them.
