Donald Trump plans to begin the process of constructing a wall on the southern border in March, sources familiar with the president-elect’s transition team told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The transition team is planning big spending negotiations with Congress at that time, which will include money for the wall — a platform on which Trump built his campaign for the presidency. He plans to make Mexico pay for the wall directly or indirectly by increasing fees on visas and border crossing cards, enforcing trade tariffs and taxing money transfers abroad.

Trump has said the wall, which will be at least 35 to 50 feet high and made of pre-cast concrete, would cost anywhere from $8 billion to $12 billion.

While about 650 miles of fencing already exist on parts of the 2,000 mile border with Mexico, Trump has promised to build a “real” wall that “actually looks good.”

Friday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) was optimistic about the prospects of President-elect Donald Trump being able to follow through with his campaign promises of a border wall.

Gohmert told “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy that there has been money already appropriated for the wall and that he was excited about the prospects of Trump “actually following the law.”

“It’s amazing what you can get Congress to do when you lead and push them in the right direction,” Gohmert said. “And actually, you know, we had appropriated money during the Bush administration that didn’t get spent for the wall. So, yeah, it’s going to be great to have somebody that’s actually following the law.”

“We’re going to be able to get this done,” he added. “It’s going to happen.” 4951

I bet Trump also reverses the immigration policies at the airport and finally lets homeland security actually enforce the law. 4951

@Spork: I will donate to the California portion of the wall, but only if it is truly impenetrable.

And building this wall seems to be a gigantic waste of money. Just enforce the laws and you don't need it. 4951

Don't forget it is just as important on how deep below the ground the wall is not just how high, and when its done you should be able to lay off a few border patrol agents. 4951

I dont think so. Yes they will still try and some will make it but it will be really hard for 100 at a time. Really hard to get women and children over. Easier to stop and arrest once over when you dont have to deal with babies and pregnant women. Once it becomes harder to get in illigally and easier to arrest maybe some will do it the way we encourage. Nothing wrong with them wanting a piece of the pie....alot wrong with them stealing it.

The wall will not get done. It would be huge mistake and the border can be secured for a tiny fraction of that money with technology. Drones, heat cameras, sensors.

The idea that Mexico will pay for it is laughable, even "indirectly".

The other point is that clearly Trump was saying what he did to get the votes, which he accomplished. He is already changing the tune on Obamacare, by willing to "compromise" on it.

Having said all that, and a little off topic, how damn stupid are the protesters? This is exactly why I didn't vote for either of them. Both sides talk a big talk and at the end of the day it's all partisan politics.

With picking Trump the republcans lost me for the election, with the reaction the democrats are making sure I never consider their candidates again. I consider myself a libertarian and open to voting for the right candidate, but you have to be willing to accept the results of democracy. If you want to do away with the electoral college, start the process to get an amendment but Trump won under the current rules. Suck it up and wait until he starts his term to see if there are reasons to protest. 4951

Agreed. If man can build it another man can figure out away to get past it. Also, once built it will need constant maintenance and monitoring or it will quickly fall apart.
The best way to stop traffic is to make it unattractive to come here illegally. No free healthcare, education, handouts, just a quick trip back. That doesn't happen now so it is worth it to take the risk.
I'd rather see the money go towards something productive like fixing existing infrastructure. 4951
