Our contractor just texted me a photo of a $300 parking ticket that one of his demo guys got today (Downtown). He didn't write anything, just sent the photo.

I have given them a free garage parking pass with in and out privileges all day, and it is written in our contract that they are keeping any 'parking receipts or metro receipts' for reimbursement. This guy was loading stuff, and needed to be on the street, but it looks like he either did not pay the meter, or he parked in a commercial spot without being registered as a commercial vehicle. I have not signed this contract yet... however (because the person who handles the contracts is out on maternity leave, and the contract is not actually finished yet).

Do you think I should have to pay this ticket? I have no problem paying for daily parking. Of course, I have no control if they decide to park illegally or if they decide not to pay attention to the parking signs/rules.

Raise hell or pay it and let it go? 4951

I definitely would be raising three kinds of hell.  It's not your fault he didn't pay attention to what he was doing/where he was parking.  4951

I looked up the fee schedule for Houston parking tickets and at $305 he was either in a commercial loading zone or a fire lane. I don't see how either one of those is your fault. I wouldn't pay it. He should know better. And if he didn't, he certainly does now. 4951

Not saying to pay it, but if you don't, do you think they will try and recoop the cost by padding your bill? 4951

Don't pay it. Incompetence should not be rewarded with indemnity. 4951

Hahaha, y'all are making me laugh!  @ET, that was hilarious.Wow, @ZMAN, nice detective work!  It was actually $305, and the ticket reads "Overtime parking in a CVLZ" (Commercial Vehicle Loading Zone) on Walker at Main.  4951

DO NOT PAY!  He broke the law and should take responsibility for his own actions.  4951

I decided to text him back:

"I am NOT paying for parking tickets."

...And now I feel horrible because he responded back with a 'Lol, I did not ask you to'

I feel like a B now... this always happens to me. I put my foot down, then I feel bad (like I took it too far, or I could have worded that in a nicer way, or something).

He explained that he just didn't know that parking tickets were that expensive (and it was his demo guy's fault). I think the conversation could have gone another way if I didn't send what I did. He can always jack up the price somewhere, though. So yeah, that part sucks - but always a risky variable when doing a renovation. I do have a preliminary itemized quote at least - I guess that will go up by $305 really soon. ;-)

He did apologize for stressing me out. Hahaha. I told him that this is only the 3rd time he has made me cry.

I'm going in on Monday with a smile and some donuts. Just look at what they did to one of the bathrooms today... 😜 better not mess with them.

Omg, wine time.

@terilyntx:
No need to bring donuts. He sent it hoping you would say, "I'll take care of it." It was a passive aggressive form of manipulation. When you balked, he retreated. Trust me....had you stated you would pay, he would have gladly handed you the ticket. As the others have stated, you will still end up paying for it some kind of way. Did I mention to sign your contract? 😃
