Hi, I'm Macteddy and am new to this forum and would love to find a really good Mexican restaurant in the Kingwood area. I am originally from New Mexico and our Mexican food is different from what I am finding here. Ideas anyone? Thanks in advance 4951

Try Chuy's in Humble.  It's probably the closest thing to NM mex. 4951

@Ebola: Anywhere that doesn't season their chicken should suffice.

I, too, am originally from New Mexico (Albuquerque) and recommend Chuy' s. I always order the "9-1-1." It's off the menu, although it is listed on some Chuy restaurants, but not the one in Humble. It's a green chile chicken enchilada entree made with blue corn tortillas and green chile. I order extra Hatch green chile on the side, and it's delicious! The Kingwood Meat Market has great tacos, and their green salsa is very good. When I worked at HP (Hwy 249) campus, I enjoyed  lunch at Santa Fe Flats located across the street from HP. Owners are from Albuquerque so you can enjoy the flat enchiladas with red or green chile. They also have sopapillas, which we enjoy with our meals in New Mexico, not just the sweetened dessert ones. During the holidays, they offer posole, another New Mexican tradition.I have not yet tried Tularosas, but the owner is originally from New Mexico, so I'm looking forward to trying their food. 4951

I like Pappasitos for Texmex and Hugo's for proper Mexican. 4951

I agree with you regarding Pappacitos for good TexMex and Hugo's for authentic Mexican food. However, New Mexican food is unique, in my opinion. I have carried in my luggage when visiting Albuquerque, a bag of red chile pods to make my own chile, and have ordered Hatch chile to roast and freeze green chile. I order directly from a farm in Hatch, New Mexico. It's addictive! 4951

You need to check out El Jalapeno in Atascocita. I too am real picky on Mexican restaurants and most in the area  are crap. 4951

I read an article regarding the owner's inspiration for his Tularosas restaurant in which he said he was inspired by his village in N.M. In any case, I'm looking forward to trying the food! I've seen good reviews.

Curious of favorite ABQ restaurants. Feel free to message me to avoid a hijack of this thread. I am a lover of Il Vecino pizza but always looking for new options to try re: NM cuisine. 4951
