As our kids, or in our case, grandkids, returned to school today I was thinking what a shame they don't have prayer in school anymore.
But you know what? They do.

While our misguided "leaders" have removed God from the classroom any mention of Him on school grounds, they cannot remove Him from the hearts of our students!
Though they will enter the doors of the schools as individuals, they are united in the body of Christ.

Parents let your student know it is ok to pray in school, let them know it is ok to seek out other Christ like students in schools! Let them know it is ok to assemble and pray together in school!

God is in our schools. He is in the hearts of all who believe. No body can stop that! 4951

I support your right  of freedom to worship the god of your choice but do you assume that all kids in public schools worship Christ? The Houston region has people of many faiths and even those who choose not to believe in a god. I pay taxes for the public schools to educate children in all the basics that will make them productive adults, I don't pay taxes for religious indoctrination. If kids want to pray silently like before a test or a give thanks for passing one then they can but they can not be forced to pray to a god they might not worship or pray toJust my 2 cents! 4951

@dac1842: I agree with this in theory. However, state enforced prayer would be completely unconstitutional and goes against what our Country was founded upon. Yes they have every right to say a prayer but when a school tells them they must do a Christian/Muslim/Jewish/Hindu prayer, I am 100% against it.

@dac1842: There should be NO school led prayer whatsoever, students should however, be allowed to lead prayers themselves and students of all religions should be able to prey when they want.
I don't look at this as keeping god, allah, vishnu or buda, or the flying spaghetti monster out of our schools, just not forcing them on all students.  A person should be free to prey when they wish, state led payer is not prayer at all for all students, at best it's obedience.   4951

@dac1842: Don't need to. The SCOTUS ruled on June 25, 1962, in Engel v. Vitale that a prayer approved by the
New York Board of Regents for use in schools violated the First
Amendment because it represented establishment of religion. The Court explained the importance of separation between church and
state by giving a lengthy history of the issue, beginning with the 16th
century in England. It then stated that school's prayer is a religious
activity by the very nature of it being a prayer, and that prescribing
such a religious activity for school children violates the Establishment
Clause. The program, created by government officials to promote a
religious belief, was therefore constitutionally impermissible.
The Court rejected the defendant's arguments that people are not
asked to respect any specific established religion; and that the prayer
is voluntary. The Court held that the mere promotion of a religion is
sufficient to establish a violation, even if that promotion is not
coercive. The Court further held that the fact that the prayer is
vaguely worded enough not to promote any particular religion is not a
sufficient defense, as it still promotes a family of religions (those
that recognize "Almighty God"), which still violates the Establishment
Clause.

News flash, we are not all religious. My atheist family doesn't want to pray, be required to pray, or be singled out of the crowd because we refuse to pray. Prayer has no place in schools. If you want prayer, that's totally cool, you'll just need to send your kid to any number of private schools where they can be surrounded by like minded people.  4951

@PedroDePacas:

My point exactly Freedom OF , not from. A person, has every right under the Constitution to practice, express and speak of their religion.
The intent of the 1st Amendment, and the founder's, as supported by the Federalist Papers, and the famous Danbury letter, was not to keep religion out of state sponsored institutions.
The whole premise is to prevent our Government from dictating a religion, or a religion from dictating our Government.

Our Supreme Court over the years have forgotten their role, which is to determine whether or not a law is within the scope of the Constitution.nothing more, nothing less.
They have for many years now, inserted their own beliefs, or succumbed to the political pressure of others in their rulings on this subject.

If a parent does not want their child, or a child does not wish to participate in a prayer, that is their right as well. They cannot, and should not be forced to,
As forcing them to participate would be a violation, just as depriving those that want to the opportunity to do so. Is a violation as well.

God Bless. 4951

Yeah I think no murder, rape, school shooting or terrorist act ever would have happened if we just made everyone pray to Jesus every morning. (sarcasm)

when I grew up in public school, we had a "moment of silence" after the pledge of allegiance.  i wonder if they still do that.  do they still say the pledge?  does the pledge still say "one nation under God"?  i need to ask my teacher friend this.  4951

@dac1842: One cannot have one without the other, those who choose to practice no religion should not be subjected to "state sponsored" religion, it is not acceptable to give them the option not to participate, it should be down to every individual if he/she wants to practice religion or any part thereof and that is impossible if staff-led prayer is permitted in schools. For the schools to allow freedom OF religion if they are going to promote any aspect of any one then they MUST promote all, as others have said that would be not only christian prayers, but muslim, hindu, jewish, sikh, scientologists, satanists and any others you care to mention EQUALLY, but still that discriminates against those with no religion at all. Best to leave it to the individual, which is what always ends up happening in these cases and is correct.
