Saw this in the NY Times. Seems like the requirement for hunters to wear blaze orange is pretty common in most states but mainly for larger game like deer and elk but not birds or waterfowl. The belief is that many mammals we hunt are color blind so they don't see the color but humans will and avoid shooting one another. In Texas it is only required if you hunt on National forests or grasslands. NY State will now allow hot pink camo in hope of attracting more women to the sport. Might work, I've seen pink pistols and other accessories. 4951

Academy carries a really big inventory of all things pink for hunting season.  There are a couple of females in the family that have a whole collection of pink camo hunting everything.  And they use it all! 4951

@Retired_Engineer:  My daughter used to be slightly embarrassed to admit that she hunted...she bagged her first deer at the age of 10 and has hunted ever since.  And she is dead-eye!   I'd hate to be on the other end of the gun that she pointed at me..... 4951

My wife has a semi pink backpack so we don't mix-up before daylight. Also a hoodie w/ pink mossy oak bc she's a goober who doesn't think cold fronts roll in on the dove season opener so she packs nothing long sleeve and that's all the Sweetwater Wally World had in her size. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I'll shoot, but I'm not hunting anything. I don't care what color or how cute the attire is for the event.

If I want something, I'll go to the meat market or meat counter at the grocery store. Money well spent to have someone else to the butchering, prep and packaging. 4951

I love that! The problem is "camo" is suppose to mean camouflage, as in disguised to look like your surroundings and as cute as that stuff is, it doesn't exactly blend  in with the trees and bushes. LOL. Women, they gotta go with The Cute. Emoticon 4951

Orange doesn't "go" either!!   If you are in keeping with Chris' post.  Our guys won't wear orange, and the camo has to be whatever the trees/brush/etc is.  So boring. 4951

@donnatella:  That's fine and I can respect that. You don't hunt because you don't NEED to hunt.  Knowing how to shoot is critical if there ever comes a time when you can't get your meat at a store and have to hunt to eat.  If you get hungry enough, you CAN & WILL become a hunter.

@Retired_Engineer: My daughter is taking hunters education this year and will give it a try. We met Theresa Vail not too long ago and she gave my daughter tips. My daughter is learning rifle but she is ready for bow as she is an archer. She orders her outfit from Reelcamogirl.com which is a site assisting female hunters and shooters. I am twitter friends with the owner and founder.http://www.reelcamogirl.com/

@TheTruthHurts: Actually most of the female hunters I associate with do not hunt with pink or orange camo. They just wear them at social gatherings or at the range practicing. Last hunting season I hunted with two female hunters and they were in straight camo but changed when the hunt was over into their pink stuff. My daughter has pink camo but only wears them fishing or at the range.

@CBP210:  Yep.  Hardcore camo when hunting.  The pink stuff is for the social events "in town" during hunting season. 4951

@sh56: This is why I love the Hill Country. I cannot wait to move here when my time is done with my employer.

@CBP210:

It's different around the country on public land...that shirt shown wouldn't count bc it has to be solid in most states.

UA & Prois still makes some of the better women's camo. You catch some come across camofire throughout the year (along with significantly discounted archery gear, optics, etc). The SHE line you might as well buy the $5 shirts at Walmart bc they're coming from the same place. I got in a bind a few years ago and had to deck my wife out for Colorado with only a cpl weeks planning, I should've bought stock in UA & Yukon wear.
