Has anyone had their water heater replaced?  If so, who do you recommend?  Mine is in the attic.   4951

@radiogirl30: Sears did mine.  I just shopped around for the best price on the heater I needed and then inquired about installation at each place.  Now you can do all that on line.  Personally I would try Home Depot, Lowe's and Sears to see who is the most reasonable.  Privately owned plumbing companies are typically higher.

We used LesCon for both of ours. Did not go through Loews and HD as it always seems a hassle, they were a $1000 less than Alpha Omega bid. 4951

Wise to do it before it blows. Can't hurt to get a quote. They quoted mine over the phone. 4951

@ET: That would be awesome if they could quote over the phone!  Were yours in the attic as well?

Whatever you do, negotiate. Offer them a third less than they ask for and work them. 4951

We used Lowes they did an excellent job. I can't remember the cost but we had to replace two waterheaters. The waterheaters that we purchased had a longer warranty than those from LesCon. It will pay to shop around and negotiate. 4951

It is best if you can buy the water heater yourself. Saves delivery charge and mark-up costs. 4951

Damn $1200 ouch. I bought a display at Home Depot and my home is a ranch so each to install. Helped my brother with his in the attic. That sucked. Trick is to leave it in the box and slide it up the stairs if possible. He was using pulleys and ropes which worked awful. We got it but I would have left it in the box until it is upstairs or where you want it. 4951

My Husband took ours out and replaced....I helped. With the proper tools...it's not that difficult. Once drained it's light. I carried ours to the curb myself. Picked up in 5 mintutes by the scrap metal peeps that tool the neighborhoods.  Not sure if you're married to a handy kinda of guy but if so he can do this! If single, find out if any of your single dude friends are handy. Save the money and go get your hair, nails and a have a spa day! @radiogirl30 4951

It's an easy job. Hardest part is getting it upstairs if that is where it is located. With the shark bites don't have to weld the connections anymore.     4951
