They drove over Friday afternoon for a weekend fling at Six Flags, we were watching their dog. Got word later on Saturday that after 4 hours of crowds and heat they had only gotten on 3 rides so left and went to Natural Bridge Caverns for the rest of the day. Did 2 of the tours. Everyone had a great time although their mom complained about the climb up from inside the caves and 18 flights of stairs to climb and the humidity although at least it was only in the low 70's inside the caves. They packed it in after breakfast and headed home to swim in their backyard pool. Can't blame them, 4951

@Chrisinkingwood:

Natural Bridge is only 15 minutes from us! And I agree...it's way too hot for Six Flags! I have a friend going to Sea World today and I told her not to even bother with her hair and make up, it's just going to melt off! 4951

I can't even imagine going to Six Flags in the summer.  It was built down in a rock quarry.  No air, just unreal heat.Sea World is a bit better, and their water park is pretty good.  But in the summer, neither one would be a place I would go on purpose.

Our grandson is visiting from Iowa (we're now living in Kerrville) and we wanted to take him someplace fun before he heads back home.  We considered Sea World and Fiesta Texas/Six Flags but reconsidered for the above reasons.  We've decided Schlitterbahn instead for tomorrow.  We're expecting it to be crowded but at least there's water everywhere.  Please pray for me.  "Emoticon"  4951

@Love2Run: Schlitterbahn is very comfortable even with the current high temperatures.  That water, pumped in from the Comal (I think) will keep you cool.  The New Braunfels location also has a semi-lazy river that you don't even have to get out of - it has a conveyor belt that lifts you up higher and sends you back through a loop.  The New Braunfels location is my favorite.  Natural Bridge Caverns, already mentioned by a couple of others, is also a nice way to get out of the heat and do something fun.

@buffaloglenn: Thanks guys! The only drawback is alcohol isn't allowed. But how will they know what's in my sippy cup? Emoticon

Just be sure you clearly mark your "special" bottle so your grandson doesn't accidentally drink from it.

When our kids were younger, we went to Sea World in San Antonio several times during the summer.  The first time, we tried to hurry from one show to the next and my wife got heat stroke.  We cooled her down and got her hydrated and learned to pace ourselves much slower in future visits.  One of the problems around San Antonio and Sea World is a lack of shade. My feet got so hot, I was pouring water on my black shoes to cool them down.  When you go to an amusement park in Texas, take your time, rest when you can, and stay hydrated. 4951

This thread reminds me of a lawn customer I had while in high school.  I was 16 or 17 and he always tried to give my brother and me a beer after we finished mowing.  One day, he comes out all angry, and we thought it was something we did mowing, and then he told us, "I'm just **** off, cause I have to take my kids to Astrohell".  That was his term for Astroworld!  My bro and I still laugh about that today.  4951

@Love2Run: Just make sure the child has no cuts, scratches or scrapes. Take a couple of clean gallon jugs of water from home and leave them in the car to do a good rinse off at the end of the day, and everyone showers when you get home, no matter how tired they might be.  Take some mouthwash to use, in case the child gets any of the water in their mouth. Sorry with all the yucky stuff in the water everywhere, better safe than sorry.
