There's a body of research showing that painkiller abuse and overdose are lower in states with medical marijuana laws. These studies have generally assumed that when medical marijuana is available, pain patients are increasingly choosing pot over powerful and deadly prescription narcotics. But that's always been just an assumption....  Until Now....A new study, released in the journal Health Affairs, validates these findings by providing clear evidence of a missing link in the causal chain running from medical marijuana to falling overdoses. Ashley and W. David Bradford, a daughter-father pair of researchers at the University of Georgia, scoured the database of all prescription drugs paid for under Medicare Part D from 2010 to 2013.They found that in the 17 states with a medical-marijuana law in place by 2013, prescriptions for painkillers and other classes of drugs fell sharply compared with states that did not have a medical-marijuana law. The drops were quite significant: In medical-marijuana states, the average doctor prescribed 265 fewer doses of antidepressants each year, 486 fewer doses of seizure medication, 541 fewer anti-nausea doses and 562 fewer doses of anti-anxiety medication. But most strikingly, the typical physician in a medical-marijuana state prescribed 1,826 fewer doses of painkillers in a given year.In a news release, lead author Ashley Bradford wrote, "The results suggest people are really using marijuana as medicine and not just using it for recreational purposes."The tanking numbers for painkiller prescriptions in medical marijuana states are likely to cause some concern among pharmaceutical companies. These companies have long been at the forefront of opposition to marijuana reform, funding research by anti-pot academics and funneling dollars to groups, such as the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, that oppose marijuana legalization.Link To Complete Article And Chart: www.msn.com/en-us/mo ney/healthcare/one-s triking-chart-shows- why-pharma-comp

Marijuana is like Morphine.  It masks symptoms in an end of life manner. There's nothing wrong with that for certain people. 4951

Actually no...as with Essential oils...plant based oils can break the brain barrier because the molecules and cells are smaller then senthetic made medicine. They can actually tell the brain what to fix instead of fooling the body into believing its fixed.

My whole life I fought the legalization of marujuana but once you research it deep you will find we are wrong. Same as Essential oils being a scam.(real pure EO, not health store or adulterated EOs) Americans are trying to heal themselves right into the grave with chemicals because they just refuse to believe the good lord already gave us natural medicines. Plus insurance covers the fake crap and instead of spending a little each month on real natural health they would rather drink liquer and take mini vacations and buy stuff they really dont need.

There is a place for both traditional and holistic medicine. People should really wake up to the war on holistic medicine behind the scenes instead of screaming quack , voodoo, snake oil. You are missing out on fantastic health.

I am 100 percent for legalizing medical marijuana. I am not for using it daily "just because" though, but we are robbing people of something that could really help them.

@fcabanski: Isn't that pretty much what pain killers do?

Gotta tell ya I have been following the stocks of a few of the Marijuana companies and while it isn't my cup of Starbucks I'm about ready to test the waters on their stock. A couple of the charts are looking good.

@Stealth83: A lot of potential, not just as a drug either. Hemp is some impressive material. They use to use it in the Navy for ship mooring. Then there is clothing, textile. It grows fast so it would be more efficient than corn as in ethanol from what I have read. I'm sure a lot of industries see it as a threat.

Big pharm will never cure a thing. To much cash to loose. I also believe they have built a huge industry around rehab. Have you ever seen a parent or spouse sue a pharmaceutical company because their love ones died of an addiction to their man made poison?
I've heard for 50 years, I only drink alcohol because Mary Jane is illegal. I only drink because my company drug tests.
.
World peace would also put too many out of work.
Crime is a huge money grab on all sides.
.
I myself do not believe a bunch of alcoholics have a right to tell me what to do with or put in my body.
Why should I have to pump poison into myself if there are natual remedies? We should be free to choose how to medicate ourselves.

My DH's doctor just cut his painkillers in half because the government says over 120mg daily is only for end stage cancer patients. Their studies did not include anything longer than 6 weeks! This same doctor has been treating DH for his chronic pain for 12 years! They have no clue as to the difference between acute and chronic pain conditions. Let the doctors do the healing! 4951

I would love to be able to try it for my daughters seizure disorder. As it stands right now, she will be on brain and body altering chemicals for the rest of her life. 4951
