>> I think there needs to be some officer retraining.
In the recent Baton Rouge case, the owner of the shop said that the police pulled the gun out of the guy's pocket after they shot him. Is that standard police behavior?
@Zoey:Â I am going to go out on a limb here and say the police on that scene had more training than the store owner and were in a better position to see what was happening than the store owner who was in the store at the time.And assuming that the gun was in the suspect's pocket, what if he w's reaching for it? at what point do they get to defend themselves?
@chilladahun:
Perhaps I didn't see the same news report. According to CBSNEWS, the shop owner's video clearly shows all the action which he couldn't have gotten while inside the shop.
Can your " assuming & what if " statements be used in any police interaction? What if a person who carries is stopped for any reason, and the officer sees the gun? Can he shoot them & say what if? Where is the line drawn?
When I was younger, my brilliant father was a cop & he related many incidents. From what he experienced, it
would certainly be beneficial if there were ongoing training classes.
