Does anyone know of someone who is an aide or has experience with adults with dementia, Alzheimer's and has cancer as well. My father 67 yrs old had someone who was coming to our house to give him showers but she is no longer doing it. He will not let me help him but it does take someone who will help him shower and wash his hair. If you know someone or you do this , I would appreciate the help as soon as possible. This will be for at least a few times a week. you can text me @ 832-691-5538, call me or email me. Thank you in advance.

You may want to contact the nursing department at Kingwood College. I know several students are CNA certified and they begin their clinical rotations working at an LTAC, which often has dementia patients. They send out email requests to the students from people looking for help in the community. 4951

He should qualify for hospice immediately because of the cancer. The aide will come 3-5 times a week to help with showers. His Dr should be willing to sign off because of his Alzheimer's and the cancer. 4951

If he can't get around easy, ask his Dr about home health care. They also will send an aide. 4951

@blessed1991:  I wish you and your dad the best.  My wife's mother had Alzheimers.  She required full-time care until she passed.

Is he getting home health care? Sounds like he's not. Ask his doc to prescribe home health. Medicare pays for it. Most qualifying patients can get nursing care, bath aides and therapy at home. I am a home health occupational therapist. Shoot me a message if you have questions, I'll help the best i can. 4951

I do not know about Texas but here in Kentucky in the front & back of our telephone books they have list of different agencies that offer different kinds of services you just need to call them & give them the required information & they will take it from there . It's always good to have your doctor sign papers about his illnesses so you will have a head start on the paper work . Good Luck & God Bless. 4951

Medicare is your best bet.  I did this for my parents.  CNA is more expensive than an aide if you pay out of pocket, but with medicare you probably won't pay. A man would be great since they are usually stronger & can maneuver him better. 4951

@blessed1991:  Do you have a chair for the shower?  It helped me a lot when I first came home from the hospital after my surgery.  The hospital had a much sturdier chair along with grab bars for the tub.  I had a nurse help me take a shower and she was very professional about it.
