I read somewhere earlier to day that you can add Flax Seed Oil to your dogs food to help with itching/scratching/biting.  Has anyone tried this or know this to be true?  My dogs are constantly scratching themselves.  4951

That helps. You can also use coconut or fish oil. If the scratching has been going on for a while, could be a food allergy. 4951

Mine got a prescription. Some pet owners give Benadryl but you have to do it according to size. What kind of dog? 4951

My rescue friend said you can give Benadryl 1 mg per lb every 8-12 hours. I sprayed mine with Benadryl spray and that gave temporary relief until vet visit. Mine now take nex guard and never has a flea since. My friend said you can go to veterinary place.com and get excellent info. She has given hers Zyrtec 10 mg for 16-39 lbs. This is temporary relief for itching and scratching. It will help for few days. One of my dogs is also allergic to grass and will lick and chew his feet so he has a prescription for his. 4951

I put benadryl on some peanut butter and it's gone in seconds.  Mine has been scratching lately but she has no bites or fleas on her so I am not sure why.  She is also prone to hives for some reason.  She is about 55 pounds and I give her 2. 4951

Coconut oil rubbed on their coat/skin helps as well. It's messy, but works to moisturize and relieve dry or itchy skin. I mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil in as well to provide a little bit more soothe to it. 4951

Mine has some type of allergy. I have changed food that doesn't help. No fleas. I put coconut oil on. Give her pills. That does not work so I had to go get her cortisone shots. Lasted about 3-4 weeks need to go back again. This yr has been bad. I usually get it under control but I feel so bad for her. Vet said she is just a bad itcher. 4951

Pickles, mine did the shots too. He's 18 years old so he couldn't do them too long. Shots did last about a month. It was great. 4951
