My husband had to book a last minute flight for me, so we had to go the cheaper route. I've only ever flown United and Delta. I'm 5'1 and I felt crammed. If you have long legs well your knees are going to touch the seat of the person in front of you. If you're a wider person well you're going to be touching the person next to you. You can pay extra for a seat with more room. You also have to pay extra for a carry on or checked baggage. If you only have a carry on you get to load the plane first. They don't clean the plane in between flights. I saw cookie crumbs on the seat next to me and the menu waa stuck together with gum. A lot of their flights are not on time or they get canceled. Just Google the name spirit airlines. Many people I know personally have had bad luck with them. My flight was only delayed for forty minutes. Overall, if you need to get somewhere (not too far) last minute without breaking the budget I'd recommend them. 4951

I'd rather stay home than fly Spirit.  4951

I fly Spirit quite a bit (have a GF in Irvine Ca I go see)-never had a problem-don't get free cokes/peanuts but drinks (alcohol) are cheaper and they seem like old SW planes to me. A flight to LA is $450 (with a stop in Denver) and up on other AL's but Spirit is $180 Nonstop and you can catch it for like $80 sometimes. I'm all over that-like Stealth stated-if you just want to get somewhere w/out all the frills-you can't beat them (never been late for me and I believe their delays are rated about the same as other AL's). 4951

Hubby used to travel frequently for business. From his experiences, he would rather walk to his destination than use Spirit. He is very happy to work from home to avoid all the airport hassles. 4951

You get what you pay for, don't you?Try American if you really need to post a derogative comment.Friends just returned from a cruise to Greece.  They changed planes in North Carolina before arriving in Rome.  You guessed it....no checked luggage! It took six days of e-mails, expensive phone calls and efforts of RCL to locate the luggage before it caught up with them at one of the ports.  RCL was great in that they gave them free laundry/dry cleaning and a discount on shipboard clothing. No response from American however....no apology etc.  Great customer service.Lesson learned:  Pack your carry on with a lot of extra essentials...like underwear for instance.Live and learn for sure. 4951

Now on the opposite end of flying- I LOVE Lufthansa!!! We flew to GER last year and paid for Premium Economy- it was like United Business class but better!!! Extra leg room and wider seats- a nice big console between seats.  Individual screens with tons of movies, shows and games. Great food on dishes -complimentary beer and wine and the flight attendants were excellent. Not a fan of flying- I get claustrophobic - but I had a great time. 4951

Most foreign carriers offer great service if you are willing to pay a premium price.  Even back in steerage the service is great.  Our favorite?  Qantas. 4951

Check what ALL the fees are. They aren't any cheaper after all the fees and crap they heap on you in an a la carte style. They don't want to talk to you on any level, they prefer all net interactions. YUCK, they SUCK. 4951

We have used them twice. I read all the bad reviews & went in knowing what I was in far. The price for baggage & the price for food if you wanted anything. I have to say it turned out to be totally fine. Yes the seats are a little smaller but we had nice flight attendants & a great flight. From here to Orlando & back. We flew on American to Miami & back back from Jamaica & had the worst experience. So really I think it depends on who you get & how they feel like any day out on the world. Best of luck. 4951

I agree that the flight attendants were super nice. I would do it again for a short flight, but I'd bring disinfectant wipes next time lol. 4951

When I travel for business I usually fly United or Southwest where my employer pays the flight otherwise I am driving with all the kiddos on a road trip like I did to California several years ago. 4951

I think the trick with Spirit in my opinion is purchasing a seat up front. Actually I bought their "first class" ticket and enjoyed a bigger seat. Even with all the fees it was cheaper than United. We were on time, it was a nonstop flight. I will use them again when I'm strapped for cash! 4951

We went to Cancun a few years ago and flew Aeromexico. We were going to carry some bags on to save money and the ticket agent convinced us that checking them would be easier because we had a lay-over in Mexico City. We mentioned we didn't want to pay the extra baggage fees and she said - we don't charge for bags, this is aeromexico! Then on the flight when the drink cart came around we thought we would treat ourselves to an alcohol drink. When the hubby tried to give her his card to pay for it the flight attendant said - we don't charge for alcohol, this is aeromexico! The flight was more ontime than any of the big US airline I've flown lately and the crew was super friendly. We weren't expecting much from them but they were great. Sometimes having low expectations can lead to a much better experience!  4951
