I've pulled 6 turtles from the road in the last 3 days. 2 Red Ear sliders & 4 three-toed box turtles. One of the box turtles had to be humanely euthanized today from being run over. All 4 of the box turtles were found on the back stretch of Kingwood on Mills Branch Rd. Once they get off the curb, they are stuck in the street & can't get back on. Please do your best to notice them and not run over them if possible.I know that most of the time when animals are hit, it is really just a matter of bad timing. But driving the speed limit, not texting, being sober and paying attention can help our Woodland creatures have a better chance. As of yesterday, there is also a dead deer and armadillo on Mills Bridge Rd.If you can stop to save a turtle. PLEASE do it safely. Pull safely off the road in a parking lot or neighborhood. Please wait until there is a break in the traffic and by all means DO NOT risk your own life, or the life of others to do so. Even if this means you have to endure watching it get run over.I literally watched a well intention lady yesterday, slam on her breaks in the middle of W. Lake Houston to save a turtle. She almost caused a 7 car pile up. I had already pulled over into the Y parking lot so I could get out & run down the sidewalk to see if I could safely rescue it. It went well and I was able to rescue the turtle, but scared me so much to see the "almost accident". Rescuing is NOT worth a human life. So long & short of it is, please watch out for the turtles if you can. Also, here is a good reptile contact if you need help: https://www.facebook.com/RikisRelocations/?fref=ts Especially for snakes.and for woodland animals needing help. The TWRC in Houston is fabulous as well. http://www.twrcwildlifecenter.org/ 4951

@Orchid, I'm glad to see that someone besides me stops to save turtles! I only do when it is safe, but I have saved my share recently too. I just can't stand to see them stuck in the street and unable to climb out....so heart wrenching.... 4951

Taught my boys when they were young to help the turtles. Proud to say as adults they help out many animals! 4951

Michael will stop and pick them up to show our granddaughter and later release them but I will try to just drive over them because I just want to get where I'm going and getting home in the shortest amount of time possible. ..I may not be as nice as some. 4951

We were sitting outside the other day and heard some crunching of leaves and this guy popped out . The boys were scared of this little guy so we just moved him closer to the back fence and he escaped later.

@BooBear: Just to clarify ... you are not purposely killing them, but driving "over them", sparing their life, correct?I wouldn't expect anyone to stop & pick them up if they don't have the time, it's not safe, or not into rescuing them.

@BooBear: And you say I drive badly. At least I don't hit things moseying across the road. That new little sports car is NOT for more precise target practice. Geez! SMH! 4951

Uh huh...once you hear that pop, you can't stop.

We have a couple of the giant alligator snapping turtles in a beaver pond on our place. Those things are pretty cool; ugly, but cool. 4951
