I just saw this on Facebook about Reeve's Furniture, right there by the San Jac River.  I knew they would have a lot of damage but there's a video where you can see more. It's so sad. https://www.gofundme.com/debbiecrapseI know some of you will say they deserve it because they're so close to the river but they would not have taken on nearly so much water if it wasn't for Conroe releasing the dam like they did.  4951

@BJByrd:

Sad about Reeves! Conroe was only part of the problem, Woodlands & Spring Creek area also had extraordinary amounts of rainfall and none of that was controlled by the dam.

If the River Authority had not released at the dam, we would have had major problems down here, so it's best to release to prevent the dam from breaking. That is an earthen dam, hell, even concrete dams have been known to break. It would have been like a tidal wave with all of Lake Conroe coming all at once, coupled with the flooding from Spring Creek and from Woodlands.

Sad but I've wondered in the past how they stayed there after other floods in the past years. At some point you just have to realize that floods are going to happen and maybe relocate to higher ground. 4951

Please go read and educate yourself on this.  They have to release the water.  A dam failure would be catastrophic with much, much more loss of life and property.  They don't release it just on a whim because it rained.I sincerely hope Reeves recovers.  The floods over the recent months/year has been awful with a lot of people getting flooded multiple times.

I boated all the way to the grand parkway bridge yesterday on the Upper San Jac river.  Conroe is still dumping there dam. The current was moving 3.4 mph. Every riverfront home and dock I passed was severely damaged.

@SwaggyG:

Conroe is down to near normal levels, they should not be releasing that much. I'm not sure the numbers but the SJRA site should have their release figures. Hubby gets a daily update on the water level and this weekend it was OK. I was up there just yesterday and the yards are still super wet and ditches are still full from the recent storms. It will take a while for everything to dry out, let's just hope it doesn't dry completely out to drought stage. 4951

I fault the Lake Houston dam. My understanding is that it only has a spillway, no gates. They need to build the infrastructure to draw the lake down in anticipation of a Conroe release. They usually know a couple of days in advance as the wave works its way downstream. 4951

I just thought that they sold furniture I didn't know that they restored antiques. That's really awesome. Very sad to see the aftermath. 4951

Super nice people, do great furniture restoration. Most of their furniture is upstairs or the nicer items from my memory. Sad because not many places do the level of work they do anymore. Also all the people they employ. Awful. 4951

We've purchased some nice items from them over the years.  I hope they relocate in this area and continue. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: Guess I will be the jerk but I agree 100 percent with CHris. For the last 25 yrs I have seen them flood every damn time it floods. AND you know what? THey will flood yet again the next time the water rises. They KNOW this will happen. NOW, if you assume this risk and can deal with it as a cost of doing business then fine. But to play the POOR ME card...(not saying they are not nice folks) well.....to me
that dog just wont hunt. 4951

@BJByrd:

Why would you think some of us think they deserve it? That's an awful generalization of a group of really good people that are always ready willing and jump in when they can.
I feel bad for everyone that has lost anything. 4951

I don't think anyone thinks that people "deserve" to be flooded.  But @ray and @chrisinkingwood are correct, they have been flooded many times in the 25 +/- years I have lived in KW.  I believe they actually raised the building at some point in time.  Got to be prepared that close to the river and with the history of that area...
