We decided to greese the bird feeder pole today and the hilarity had been satisfying. Rotten squirrels.

Sweet. What variety of lubrication did you use? 4951

@rugburn:  That's a pretty personal question, isn't it?    Emoticon   Emoticon

Sprinkle some cayenne pepper in the grease/lube mix. Add insult to injury. 4951

@Fallon, buy the pepper coated bird seed, and the squirrels will leave it alone. Birds don't have the receptors for pepper so it doesn't bother them. 4951

We were at Kingwood garden center yesterday and saw a shocker for the squirrels. Apparently it goes around the post and when they get close it shocks them. I thought the crisco would be more humane. Lol 4951

I find WD40 to be the easiest to use and apply.I haven't found it to be a deterrent.  I have spent a small fortune on squirrel proof bird feeders, and metal hats you attach to the poles to keep the squirrels away.  And still, they eat the majority of my bird food.My family tells me the squirrels are plotting my demise.  I believe them.

@Fallon:   WD40 is a very light lubricant.  It will evaporate and wash off in the rain.  Something more "grease like" will work better than WD40 (and I am a WD40 fan!).  As mentioned, Crisco is a great choice. Auto greases will work but they are petroleum based.I gave up fighting the squirrels over the bird feeder.  I enjoy watching them almost as much as the birds.  If the squirrels chase off the birds, we just let Finn and Duke outside and they chase the squirrels away.
