Purely my fault. Was cleaning and didn't realize he was behind the couch. I guess he was put on edge by the sound of the vacuum. Went to pull the couch out, he shot out and latched onto my foot/ankle. So much pain! 🤕 4951

@starryskies67 keep an eye on the bites/scratches because cat bites become infected easily. I ended up with cellulitis in my hands years ago from a bite. Not. Fun! 4951

How deep is the bite/scratch? make sure you use an antiseptic solution and gently cleanse the area, try not to scrub the area directly. Like @yankeejessica mentioned, cat scratches can cause a Pasterulla Multocida infection causing cellulitis. If it increases in redness, swelling and in pain check with your PCP.(:  4951

Yep. I cleaned all the areas for a good ten minutes or more. Now I've got it covered with antiseptic and gauze. My cat is back to his normal self, but does he look even remotely remorseful? Of course not. Lol 4951

@starryskies67: Yeah, I had made the mistake of trying to grab my cat as it charged out the house to go after a stray that had come into our yard, and he clamped down on my hand. I know it was my fault, but my little booger cat wasn't remorseful either!

Cellulite is fat beneath the skin while cellulitis is an infection of the skin and the tissue beneth. The suffix "-Itis" means "inflammation" and usually refers to a disease process (:  4951

@squirtismyboy: Cellulitis is something different. It's like what they used to call blood poisoning and happens to cancer survivors who have had a lymph node removed. A tiny scratch or knick, even a paper cut or bug bite can cause a horrible illness causing them to spend a week or more in the hospital in isolation and under heavy infection control protocol. The affected limb swells and turns blood red and the systemic symptoms are horrible fever and chills.

A blood infection is not cellulitis, a blood infection refers to "Sepsis" which is a very serious life-threatening condition. Healthy individuals can get cellulitis depending on the degree of infection. It can take a few days up to weeks. Whether the patient is in isolation depends on the micro-organism, we've had patients in the ward with cellulitis and not in isolation because the organism is not highly transmittable.  4951

@zed19910: The isolation is to protect the patient from outside infection, not from the patient transmitting it others. My mother is a near 20-year cancer survivor, and she gets this every several years or so. She's usually in the ER immediately after the first of the symptoms show up. It's the same procedures and routines each time. Feel free to disagree with what you have seen with healthy patients, but I've experienced it with her, unfortunately more than a couple of times. 4951
