Thinking about driving to California and hitting up either Univeral Studios or Disney. What else do you guys recommend? FYI, I'm leaning heavily towards Universal more than Disneyland 4951

@squirtismyboyMy friend, I made that drive a many a time when we were stationed at Camp Pendleton in Cali....I don't know where you're specifically headed to in Cali, dude, but I suggest checkin' out LEGOLAND, the San Diego Zoo, La Jolla for the Beaches, Tide Pools and beached Seals.....Take the drive down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway...)Oh, and there's also the lil' towns of Carlsbad and Julian..... (I actually used to live in Carlsbad!  It is BEAUTIFUL!!)

And while your there eat the mexican food. It is so good. So much better than tex-mex. Go to the San Diego zoo for sure. It is the best zoo you will ever go to and Balboa Park right next to it. Sea world is way better there than the one here. Mission beach has a roller coaster that's fun to ride. If your headed near LA -six flags magic mountain is fun. In Temecula they have a nice casino and lot's of wineries. Best beach is for sure La Jolla. And go to La Jolla cove. You can see the sea lions everywhere . If money was no issue I would live in La Jolla. It's the most beautiful place. Also Coronado has beautiful beaches. There is so much to do wround San Diego. Have fun. It's a long drive to Cali but you will have a blast. 4951

No. The longest part is getting out of Texas. That takes forever. It's a pretty normal drive. 4951

@2danes:

I have 10 days to go where the wind takes me. We don't have a solid plan in place yet but with all those days available driving will save us a ton of money and we get to see a lot of country out there 4951

Six flags is fun. Have a safe trip. I miss my home state. Cali is awsome. You will really enjoy the weather. No mosquitos. 4951

Starting in San Diego and traveling up the coast at your leisure is the way to go there are so many places to visit from the recommendations given they are all homeruns in our book . We like the Santa Monica / Venice area alot plenty of people watching and places to visit.

We drove out there a few years ago. We went through Colorado, Utah and Nevada to get to San Francisco then drove south and came home through las vegas, Arizona and New Mexico. Got to see a lot of beautiful sights that way. 4951

We took 17 days to do the trip, we went in July and pulled a camper. It was great! The only time it was really hot was in las Vegas and at the Hoover dam -109, but it was a dry heat so apparently that made it ok... 4951

@Maisey1: Make sure you choose a dry path. Would hate for you to get rained on. 4951

@donnatella: Luckily we only hit rain once - at the grand canyon. It was refreshing after the desert heat.
