I finally found some pics from the last great Humble Flood, took me a while I couldn't remember the year.  This is the Toys R Us building.

Thanks for the pictures.
Now you really have me worried that this is nothing to even talk about.
That picture of Toys R Us makes me want to slip a pontoon under my home in "upper" Forest Cove. 4951

I will never forget the house on the corner of Forest Cove Dr and Cypress Ln (I think) with water up to the roof. That was the only house I was actually able to see up close and personally that signified the devastation suffered by so many. I also remember hearing from a class mate, whose home ended up completely destroyed, about how they were finally able to return to their home only to find that a cow that had been swept away in the floods ended up knocking down one outer wall of the home and was resting in their living room all bloated and stinky. 4951

I was in the 1994 flood. This flood happening now brings back those memories. I think we had 27 inches of rain, but can not remember time in Hours. 4951

@Maisey1: My parents almost bought that house just months before the flood happening.  They still talk about it to this day and how happy they were they bought a house in Bear Branch instead.  Did the city buy that property and that is why there wasn't anything ever rebuilt?

@XCPuff: I think the city bought a lot of it, as there are quite a few empty lots through that stretch.  There are also quite a few homes, more on the upside of the hill.  One of my friends lived in one of those Forest Cove apartments, and they lost their cars but got most of their stuff out (or were on the second floor).

@XCPuff: Yep, Harris County Flood Control bought that one and many of the other lots that now sit empty. I believe each homeowner affected by the flood had the option to sell out to them so that homes would never be built there again. That's crazy that your parents almost bought that house, lucky for them they picked a different one!

I remember!  The river ran through The Blue Marlin restaurant.  The flood left behind an amazingly white and huge sandy beach near the restaurant. 4951

This flood does bring back a lot of memories, although the water is not nearly as high.  We lived on Cypress next to the house on the corner.  Our home was built in 1964 and had never flooded until we had 7.5 feet inside in 1994.  My husband and brother in law borrowed a john boat and went into one of our second story windows to get the kid's baby books and my great grandmother's dining room table.   We were afraid it would get into the second floor.  Thank goodness we had flood insurance.  The county did not buy the property until after we didn't own it anymore and it flooded twice more.  It is now just vacant land. It was a difficult time for our family for a while but I have so many good memories of all the wonderful neighbors who came to help.  After the flood we moved to Conroe for several years but eventually moved back on much higher ground.  In my opinion there is no better place to live than Forest Cove. 4951
