The chore thread made me think of this.  What sort of jobs did you do in your formative years (however you define that)?  I'll start:Late elementary through college:  Mowing lawns, installing wood fences, cutting trees, hurricane clean-upHigh school through college:  Office cleaningHigh school: One winter at McDonald's (never went back, once was enough)College:  Bank tellerCollege: Set up / Tear down and parking crew for band on the lake in Clear Lake. 4951

Believe it or not my parents would not allow me to get a job in High School!!!! My Mom wanted me to enjoy all the high school things like dating, cheerleading, prom queen, home coming queen, sports. Yes I AM serious. Problem is I was never any of those and couldn't stand being around that group. I was a long haired, freaky, hippie type. And apparently if you listen to some of my former classmates- my sister and I had reputations as hell raisers. Not loose mind you but hell raisers . I about died when someone told me that. Have no idea why Emoticon
I did babysit and after high school I went into retail to raise money for spending and books at college.
I also worked at a candy factory - packaging bulk candy
And I worked for my teacher at her barn in exchange for riding lessons. I learned a ton about animal behavior!! 4951

Elementary school we did all kinds of yard work and odd jobs.
At 14 I was allowed to sign up for the summer work program. I was put on the nature trail team and boy did I learn a lot. We built an educational 3 mile trail with an outdoor classroom in the middle for the elementary school.
At 16 through 18 I worked in dry cleaners, pizza places, sub shops and t-shirt /head shop. (Smoke shop for those too young)
at 18 I ran away with the band and a bunch of us girls were roadies, setting up, crowd control and tear down. I've been a dancer, had many commission sales jobs and owned small businesses.
While I danced I worked at the donut shop. Yes it was me who filled the donuts. I also made party favors and hats in a factory.
I was a label inspector at a juice factory and learned all juice comes from the same vat. We just ran cases and slapped different brands on them. I don't buy top dollar anymore.
I'm over 55 now so I've done many things. The one I'm most successful at is surviving. I'm willing get work hard and do most jobs.
Although I get fearful of heights at times, I took a job as cut in on a painting crew and had to climb to the outside third floor. With every step and every stroke I reassured myself it was needed to get to Arizona. 4951

Middle school - mowed lawns with a push mower.  Loaned out by my father to help replace roofs, take care of cattle and horses, etc.High school - worked at a service station (pumped gas, checked oil, cleaned windshields, fixed flats, changed oil, grease jobs, and other basic mechanic work).  In summer, I worked 6-10hr days/week for $1/hr and then $1.25/hr.  Did well, so I started making a commission on most jobs.College -  One summer, worked as a Timekeeper and general gofer for a construction co. inside a chemical plant.  Next summer, previous contractor out on strike so I went to work as an armed security guard for Wells Fargo, primarily as the guard in back of armored cars, but also guarded ships anchored in the Mississippi River. Worked 12 hrs/day, 6 days/week. Got married at the end of that summer.Worked for my wife's Uncle in his Septic Tank Service company.  Made $5/job. Digging up septic tank covers and them rodding out the sewer lines and pumping out the septic tanks, dumping the sewage on a concrete pad in an isolated area so the sewage could dry out, then it was scraped up and burned. BTW, that job helped me stay in college and do well!  After classes, I would go to his house and do homework and study until we got a call. Was a professors assistant.  Graded homework, helped him prepare for class, etc.Graduated and went to work for an oil company.  Was on call 24/7 and worked many turn-arounds. Retired 30 years later.edited:  So much for trying to format this 4951

I started working when I was 14. Sonic then wendys, burgerking, godfathers pizza, and at some sort of dollarstore. Cant remember the name. Then a childcare center. Sometimes holding 2 jobs at once and going to classes. At 18 I became a waitress then a bartender then bar manager. Then at 21 I started my own inhome daycare center until I was 28 or so. After that I worked for families with special needs as an inhome caregiver and educational instructor then started working for the humble school system as a special needs aid for a first year college program and then working for a friend at their home as a homeschool aid for their children and did some book work/erands and meetings for their boat insurance company.

Then I basically retired to stay at home mom at 33(im 48)..... Emoticon

And before anyone ask....yes back then drinking age was 18 in Texas when I started those jobs and when law changed workers could still serve at 18. 4951

Under 16 I mowed lawns, shoveled snow and babysat.  The day I turned 16 I got my working papers (age to legally work in NJ) and started working at a Drug Fair which is basically the same as Walgreens.  I stocked shelves, worked the pharmacy cash register and the regular register. When I graduated high school I was stupid and didn't go to college which I am still kicking myself in the *** for.  I got a job as the register in the emergency room after graduation.  I was that annoying person asking you for your insurance when you were having a heart attack or your arm was falling off.   I worked the graveyard shift for 3 years.  Then I worked in a corporate cafeteria as a bookkeeper for a few years, then a used car dealer for 6, new car dealer for 2 always doing bookkeeping office work then moved to TX.  I do accounting now.   4951
