Our door is looking rough. I like the door and am thinking about having it restored. I don't want to do it myself. Any recommendations? 4951

I would but the previous owners put the house number on the door, giant (which I want removed). It would blow my anonymity. Emoticon

It's a double door, with upper leaded glass panels. 4951

We had that done years ago, still looks great, just don't remember the company. Wasn't cheap, but we had the door and hardware reworked, and new leaded glass installed. Ours was mahogany. 4951

Profile scrapers and lots of sanding. Even I have a worn out hand after refinishing a front door. Always follow the grain of the wood. Most glass companies can refurbish your glass. If the handles are solid brass, lots of buffing with a mild acid like lemon juice. 4951

Hey Dan do you use stripper from H/D save lotta scraping and sanding it strips it down to the new wood even takes out water stains thats how i do it at Cam Contracting 281-354-8470

@mitch08:  Good play at usurping there. I don't use stripper, as it can contaminate the surrounding ground. I do them in place, not at a shop. I also don't use filler, either.

Definitely hire someone. I tried to renovate our door once and ended up having to hang a tarp while I shopped for a new front door. I don't know who- the last company I hired to paint exterior ruined all my hardware. Emoticon

@DanStanton: Clever but not missed. I would use anyone BUT someone repetitively breaking the spam rules here. Go back and check out the previous posts over the years. Only time this one posts is to spam.

@donnatella: Spam is unwanted email. Why don't you take a poll of the members and ask if they would like me to stop giving advice. I could easily go over to KU. Which more and more this forum seems to be like.  Forums are supposed to be like a meeting hall, not feifdoms of the verbose. If, at a meeting hall you would interrupt and say the same?

@DanStanton: Why don't you calm down? I was talking about the other guy. You called him out as well.
