I have kayaked most the lake, east and west fork of the San Jac river in the KW area and if you are not down on the water you really do not see it. If you are speeding down the river on a boat you may not even see it. But when you try and enjoy a nice paddle, it is everywhere.
I attached a simple map of the areas with the highest concentration of trash. These shorelines are littered with...litter. It would take a large flotilla of volunteer boats and kayaks to clean up all the trash. You would need volunteers in waiters walking the shoreline and those islands.
This would be the best time of year to do it, when the brush is not thick and the bugs would not be an issue.
I have a pretty busy schedule but I am going to see what can be done or what we can assemble to do it on our own.
If there was a big communication campaign to reach out to all boaters in the area and perhaps get some conversation groups to help, we could set a date and divide at conquer. We could make a significant difference if we did this once a year.
Houston does it for Buffalo Bayou, we can do it for our local waters.
